This weekend in San Diego is all about summer celebrations! Head to the San Diego County Fair for some Oz-some eats and live entertainment. Or check out the San Diego Smooth Jazz Festival that starts off with a lovely 3-hour dinner cruise at the Hornblower. To add to the list there’s rooftop parties, night swim fun, and more!

Friday, June 28th

Brews on the Roof

Something’s brewing at the Kimpton Solamar Hotel’s Upper East Bar rooftop! At “Brews on the Roof” guests are invited to taste seasonal beers from local craft breweries across San Diego while enjoying food and beer discounts. This month’s featured brewery is Stone Brewing, and the event will feature an interactive music experience. With CrowdDJ, guests take the lead on the event’s atmosphere by choosing their favorite songs to be played, and creating a unique and collaborative DJ experience. Admission is free, and the event runs from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

California Tapestry

Start your weekend off at the Mission Trails Regional Park and check out LA-based artist, Lesley Goren. Her illustrative work will appeal to a broad audience and really has a Southern Californian look and feel. It’s all about native plants and flowers and our natural habitat and it fuels the imagination of the viewer at the same time. Check out one of her pieces below titled, hands.

FIFA Women’s World Cup

Lost Monarchs

Food Truck Friday at Balboa Park

Kick off your summer weekends in style every Friday evening at Balboa Park’s hottest after-hours event from 4:00 -8:30 pm. Visitors of all ages can enjoy live entertainment and activities for kids while eating gourmet dishes from a rotating selection of more than a dozen popular food trucks parked on the Plaza de Panama and El Prado walkway. Throughout the summer, Food Truck Fridays will present different musical performers or DJs each night in the Plaza de Panama.

Rooftop Cinema Club: The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)

Rooftop Cinema Club will be showing The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) at 8:30 pm atop Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego. San Diego Mud Day

Celebrate International Mud Day at this fun, free, city-sponsored event at Crown Point Park. This family-friendly event is taking place from 10:00 am – 4:30 pm.

Hornblower Whale & Dolphin Watching Tours

San Diego is one of the best locations to watch whales year-round. In summer, the legendary Blue Whales- the largest animals on Earth- commonly feed offshore of the San Diego coast. Often, other species such as Humpback Whales, Fin Whales, Pilot Whales and even Killer Whales can be seen on the cruise. The boat departs at 9:00 am, get your tickets here for just $55.

10 Barrel Brewing Co.

10 Barrel Brewing Co.’s San Diego brewpub is commemorating its second year in East Village this summer with a party on Saturday, June 29 from 2 p.m. until close. Open to the public, the event will feature a DJ, live music, games, giveaways and 20 beers on tap.  

In traditional house party style, 10 Barrel will transform the downstairs patio into a vintage basement party and convert the mezzanine into a backyard space, complete with a bonfire and lounge area. The pub will also offer games like cornhole and shuffleboard throughout the space, along with Nintendo 64 Mario Kart on the 12-foot projector screen. Special guest DJ Pocket will spin on the rooftop from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m., followed by local band, Jet West, from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.  

Pitbull at the SD County Fair

The man of many No.1 hits headlines the big stage at the San Diego County Fair Saturday. The Grammy-winning superstar is arguably the biggest name to headline the fair this summer. Tickets start at $53, with paid admission into the fair.

Sharp HealthCare Blood Drive

Join Sharp HealthCare in fulfilling our pledge to collect 1,300 units of blood to support the San Diego community. This family-friendly event and daylong blood drive includes refreshments, Sharp Lends a Hand T-shirts, craft tables for the kids, pet therapy animals, and more. All donors must show a photo ID and be at least 17 years of age.

Night Swim Pool Party

Downtown San Diego’s Hard Rock Hotel hosts Night Swim, a nighttime pool party featuring DJs and drinks while you dip. You could get yourself on a free guest list by signing up ahead of time; otherwise, pre-sale tickets cost $10 and cover at the door will cost $20 after 10 p.m.

Sunday, June 30th

San Diego Smooth Jazz Festival 

Uniting music lovers from around the world, this annual event combines the soothing sounds of smooth jazz, a variety of delicious cuisine, and an amazing atmosphere that creates an unparalleled experience for friends and family of all ages. The event kicks off on Friday night with a 3-hour dinner cruise on the Hornblower. On Saturday and Sunday, doors to the festival open at 10:00 a.m. with performances taking place from 12 p.m.- 7 p.m. Tickets are only $65 for General Admission. Reserved Seating, priced at $110, and VIP Seating, priced at $275, are available for purchase on Sunday only.

San Diego Dim Sum Tour

Feed your inner foodie as you enjoy a truly unique dining experience filled with flavorful teas and other delicious Asian-cultured inspired treats. Tickets start at $69 with the event starting at 10 a.m. at Jasmine Seafood Restaurant.

San Diego Gem Faire

The San Diego Gem Faire will be taking place all weekend long at the Scottish Rite Center. Fine jewelry, crystals, gems, beads, gold & silver, minerals & much more at manufacturer’s prices. Over 100 exhibitors from all over the world will be on site. Jewelry repair & ring sizing while you shop. Free hourly door prizes. Entry fee is just $7.

Taste of Adams Avenue

Get a taste from about 50 eateries offering up samples to ticketed patrons traveling by foot, bike, or complimentary trolley service. The event begins at 11:00 am; tickets start at $35.
