Where to Go for Food Truck Fridays at Balboa Park

By  |

Through September 27, Balboa Park’s Food Truck Fridays brings in more than a rotating selection of food trucks along with free live entertainment from local performers. Some of the upcoming artists include Bayou Brothers (July 5 and August 23), and Latin Classics (August 16). Six new trucks, including El Hueco (Peruvian), LouZiana Food (Cajon/Creole), Street Chef California (Mediterranean), Goodness Cookie Co., and Gelati & Peccati, have been added to the rotation this year. The fun goes from 4:00 pm to 8:30 pm on Fridays. You can post up in the Plaza de Panama, which will feature their “living room” set up along with giant family game sets. Or, take the opportunity to check out some the Balboa Park museums that are getting in on the action with special offerings, hours, and activities.

History Happy Hour at the San Diego History Center

The San Diego History Center is opening up their lobby and atrium with tables, a cash bar, and the “Creativity Cart” for kids. Dubbed the History Happy Hour, it goes from 4-7pm and offers interactive games and activities. Better yet? SDHC members get their first drink free! For more information, including what local brewery will be featured each week, check out: https://sandiegohistory.org/event/historyhappyhour/all/.

Rooftop Panoramas at the San Diego Natural History Museum

Experience the Natural History Museum with half-price admission after 5 pm. Bring your food truck finds to the rooftop bar, serving beer and wine and offering one of the best views of Balboa Park. Access to the rooftop bar does require paid admission to the Natural History Museum.

Fountain Views at the Fleet Science Center

If you arrive at Food Truck Fridays later on in the evening, check out the Fleet Science Center with discounted pricing from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Beer and wine are available for purchase at the Fleet’s casual Craveology Café. The patio is located in front of the iconic Balboa Park Bea Evenson Fountain.
