This weekend San Diego is putting on quite a show for the locals. Enjoy performances of your favorite musicals, or give back to your community.

Friday, January 18

Future Tense Opening Reception

Look into your future and visit the “Future Tense” art exhibit. Michael Panetta will be showing gorgeous glass art and Dennis Palmer has filled the room with bright colors that compliment beauty in chaos. These local painters’ will be at the La Playa Gallery this Friday at 5pm; admission is free.

Guys and Dolls 

Watch your favorite characters come to life in the Coronado Playhouse’s production of Guys and Dolls this Friday with tickets starting at $22, show starts at 8pm.

Cinema Under the Stars: Casablanca

Spend your Friday at the Cinema Under the Stars outdoor theatre where you can watch the classic, Casablanca. Admission starts at $17; showtime starts at 8pm.

Little Saigon Stories

The opening of Little Saigon Stories is this Friday, where you will find a collection of photography that tells a story of the Vietnamese refugees living in the San Diego’s Little District. This event starts at 4pm at Fair@44.

Pageant

One crown, six contestants, endless laughs! OB Playhouse & Theatre company is thrilled to present: PAGEANT! This is not your mama’s musical beauty PAGEANT. These ladies have that “something extra.” Join Frankie Cavalier as your charismatic host for this riotous and unapologetic musical comedy romp through the glittering world of cosmetic beauty pageants. Each night, some lucky audience members will be selected to serve as the panel of judges and vote to determine which lovely lady will walk away with the crown and title of Miss Glamouresse. Each night means a different panel of judges; each night a different winner snatches the crown!

Pacific Beach Farmers’ Market

There’s nothing like starting your Saturday in the crisp, Pacific Beach ocean air. The Pacific Beach Farmer’s Market starts at 8am this Saturday, starting on Mission Boulevard. Start your morning with fresh baked goods and other delicious cuisines.

Guided Bird Walk

Head to the Mission Trails Regional Park Each Fortuna this Saturday at 8am for a nature walk. Admission is free.

San Diego River Cleanup

Start your Saturday with a purpose, helping clean the river at South Shores Toad at 8 am. There are over 330 species located at the San Diego River alone, so it’s our job to make sure their home stays clean and safe. Please RSVP at [email protected] or call 619-297-7380.

Sharp HealthCare Blood Drive

Sharp HealthCare has a goal of reaching 1,300 units of blood to contribute to the San Diego community. Enjoy refreshments, therapy animals, and craft your own T-shirts. Please come to Sharp Corporate Office Auditorium at 8am this Saturday.

City Heights Health Fair

UCSD is hosting their annual Health Fair event, open to the public this Saturday starting at 8:30 at Copley-Price Family YMCA. Talk to different health providers and start the weekend off learning more about what you can do when it comes to your health.

A Lunch with No Waste

Come to Wild Willow Farm and Education Center to get a cooking class from a traveling personal chef, who will show you how to cook with no waste, and no leftovers. Learn how to utilize all your food so that you don’t waste your money, or your time! Tickets at $75 and the event starts at 9:30 am.

Tu B’shvat Festival

Join the coastal Roots Farm for their annual Tu B’shvat Festival. Enjoy live music, food, a Kids Zone, arts and crafts, and enjoy learning more about the 7 sacred species. The event is $20 and starts at 10 am.

Julian Certified Farmers’ Market

The Julian Farmer’s Market will be held at Wynola Farms Marketplace at 11 am this Sunday. Enjoy the crisp fresh air and fresh produce.

Body-Heart-Mind Meditation

Rest your mind this Sunday at Dharma Center at 11 am. Transcend your body into a peaceful stillness that will reset you for the week ahead.

Lane Field Park Markets

The local street market will be complete with over 20 different vendors, delicious coffee, live music, and other games to get your Sunday going. Enjoy nachos, pizza, and all your other classic American favorites. The event starts at 10am at Lane Field Park.

From 11 am to 1 pm, join JRDN for their second Bubbles and Brunch event. Featuring Gerard Bertrand Winery, JRDN’s wine professionals will pour guests selected bubbly perfectly paired with a three-course brunch prepared by Chef Dave Warner.
