Museum Month Must-Sees

By  |

For the whole month of February, you can enjoy half-price admission at over 40 San Diego museums. This annual deal, sponsored by Macy’s, offers an amazing opportunity to explore the museums on your wish list. We’ve compiled a list of participating museums here, but wanted to give you a few more details that will get you excited.

San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum (SDCDM)

Let your kids bring a friend along for a learning adventure this February. Half-price tickets (normally $8 each for both children and adults) are good for up to 4 total people, per pass. Lets face it, the older kids get, the more they want to play with their friends over their parents. But that’s okay! Join in on the adventure together by exploring the ‘global village’ or learning the science behind sailboats.

If you live in San Diego, chances are you’ve been surfing at least once. Whether you are an experienced surfer or not, the California Surf Museum is the perfect place to satisfy any lingering questions you have about this water sport. Take a field trip to see hundreds of different types of boards, surf-themed toys, and countless books. If there’s been a movie focused on surfing, surf music, or surf art, you are likely to find a copy here. Regular admission is only $5, so with the Macy’s Museum Month discount, catch the art waves for only $2.50 per person. If the 5PM close time of most museums doesn’t work with your work schedule, check out the CSM on Thursday’s, with doors open until 8PM.

Mingei International Museum

Explore art and culture at the Mingei International Museum. Learn about the early tools artists used to create masterpieces since the beginning of time and wake up to the bright colors of Sandy Swarnoff’s fashion designs. With entrance, you may even be inspired by European and Scandinavian textiles. Regular admission is $10 for adults, so with the February discount you can buy a cup of West Bean coffee or a Cravory cookie at Cafe Mingei with the extra cash you’ll be saving.

This may be the best deal of Museum Month. General Admission is typically $20 for adults and $10 for kids, but cut those numbers in half and discover new treasures at a discounted rate. Known for being a floating city, walk in the footprints of the soldiers who have served our country and see the 60 exhibits that this sea-space has to offer. For only $10 you can spend a full day listening to stories of pilots, climb aboard aircrafts, and listen to a self-guided audio tour. Finish the night off with a Downtown dinner, just minutes from this museum.

Women’s Museum of California

If the attendance of the Women’s March this January was any indication of our country’s opinion on women, then this museum has the potential to be the most visited this year. Located in the heart of Liberty Station with an admission price of just $5 ($2.50 with this deal), the Women’s Museum is definitely worth checking out. Their motto, “preserving the past, inspiring the future” shows their dedication to the feminist movement and encouragement of women’s lasting impression on the world.

This month’s special events at the museum include:

  • Author Series with Elizabeth St. John (February 12th)
  • City Tour ‘The Women of the Gaslamp Quarter’…A Walking Tour (February 18th)
  • Celebrating African American Women in the Arts (February 23rd)
  • Empowerment and Leadership with Sylvia Becker-Hill (February 27th)
  • Remarkable Women of Today (February 28th)

Check out one of these events after exploring the museum, and educate yourself well before the start of Women’s History Month (March).

Grab your discount card at any San Diego Macy’s and start enjoying the savings before the month runs out!
