5 Shows Every Game of Thrones Fan Needs to Watch

By  |

As we are unfortunately faced with the reality that Game of Thrones is ending, we Thrones fans are going to need to fill a deep void. Thankfully, there are some pretty awesome TV shows out there that are capable of providing the same thrills as Game of Thrones.

Vikings

Following the story of the legendary Ragnar Lothbrok, Vikings is an excellent show that explores the completely insane lives of the Vikings. The show is chock full of brutal battle scenes, tantalizing characters, masterfully crafted set design, and beautiful cinematography. The plot development is there too, making it a perfect addition to watch for any Game of Thrones fan.

Spartacus

Gladiators, battles, swords, and everything in between. Spartacus is set during the Roman empire, where one gladiator is faced with defending his life and honor from the many other competitors looking to fight their way to freedom. Expect the action to be on the same level of Game of Thrones, and if you’re a sucker for plot twists and turns, you’re going to love Spartacus.

The Last Kingdom

Set during 10th century AD in England, The Last Kingdom tells of the story of Uhtred, an organ who must choose between the people who raised him and his native country. The Last Kingdom is on par with Game of Thrones in terms of plot and character development, battle scenes, and much more. The show is based more off of accurate medieval history, so you won’t be finding any dragons or mythical creatures. However, this is of no consequence, as the show excels at providing a thrilling watching experience.

Black Sails

Set as a prequel to Treasure Island, Black Sails follows the adventure of one of the most feared pirates of the golden age, Captain Flint. Black Sails is excellent at recreating a unique time period in history where pirates reigned terror over vast swaths of the ocean. It has plenty of intense battle scenes, incredible characters, and some of the coolest set design you’ll ever see.

Rome

Produced by HBO back in 2005, Rome could have easily reached the level of popularity Game of Thrones enjoyed if it wasn’t untimely canceled just after two seasons. If you like the political intrigue of Game of Thrones, then Rome is a great show to watch. It is full of convincing acting and a storyline that will reel you in by the first episode. It has its moments when it comes to battles, but Rome really shines when it comes to its plot.
