SUP Pups: Adventures with Your Dog

By  |

San Diego is a very dog friendly city. We bring our pups with us everywhere— to the beach, coffee shops, and stores. It seems like man’s best friend gets to stick close by our sides here, which makes our city a paradise for humans and pups alike. Dogs are great companions, but they take care of us in so many other ways as well. In addition to the loyalty and friendship they provide, they also tend to help keep their humans healthy and active.

The Journal of Physical Activity & Health found that dog owners are more likely to reach their fitness goals than those without canine companions. Researchers at Michigan State University found that dog owners are 34% more likely to fit in 150 minutes of walking per week than non-dog owners. The study also found that owning a dog promotes health and fitness even after you take your pup for a stroll, increasing leisure-time physical activity by 69%.

SUP Pups in Liberty Station provides dogs and their humans with a unique fitness experience. There’s so much more that you can do with your dog than just taking them out for a stroll. SUP Pups offers lessons and tours that will take you and your dog around the San Diego Bay and get you comfortable paddle boarding together. When you sign up for a lesson and a tour, you’ll meet up with your class at Liberty Station, where the dogs will meet, sniff and get acquainted with each other. Pups will play around to relieve some energy, and then you’ll head down to the sandy beach where you’ll launch off and venture out into the waterway.

Your instructor will teach you the basics and safety of SUP and get you comfortable putting your dog on the board. The hour long tour will take you under the North Harbor Bridge near the Navy Dolphin Training Facility. SUP Pups tours have been known to get some great views of dolphins, not to mention the iconic views of San Diego from the bay.

The lesson and hour long tour will cost you $55 and includes dog treats and photos of you and your pup in action! After taking the class and once you and your dog are up and running with the basics, you can stop by anytime to rent a paddle board The SUP Connection at an hourly rate. For one hour, you can rent a paddle board for $20.

Stand up paddle boarding will be an adventurous alternative to the regular walks you already give your dog. We hope to see you out on the water with your furry friend!
