By  |

You scream, I scream, we all scream for ice cream! If you want to indulge in delicious ice cream, but don’t want to spend an insane amount of money, why not make it at home? You can turn this dessert craving into a fun night with your friends and the kiddos.  Fill your summer nights with frozen treats and trying new things.

The easiest way to make ice cream, is with the bag method. First things first, you will need specific supplies. You will need; plastic baggies, milk, sugar, vanilla, ice, and rock salt. Once you have all of these ingredients, then you can start making your delicious frozen treat.

Step 1:

Pour 1 cup of milk, 2 tbsp. of sugar, and ½ tbsp. of vanilla into your zip bag. After all of the ingredients are present in the bag, shake it well. Shake it for about a minute to ensure that all of your ingredients are mixed together. Make sure for this step, you are using a quart-sized bag.

Step 2:

For this step, you’ll need a gallon sized bag. Pour your rock salt and ice into the bag, and shake this as well.

Step 3:

After step 2, add the smaller bag into the bigger bag and shake, shake, shake. As you shake, you’ll notice the contents of the smaller bag becoming thick. When firm, put the mixture in the freezer for about 30 minutes to ensure that the ice cream is cold and ready to go.

Step 4:

This step is the best part, eating! You can either scoop the ice cream out and put them into bowls, or eat it right out of the bag. You can also add your favorite toppings for extra flavor.

If you have a little more time on your hands but don’t have a traditional ice cream maker, here is an alternative recipe for vanilla ice cream.

Step 1:

Put your sugar, cream, and milk into a sauce pan and start stirring. Stir this mixture until the sugar chunks are completely gone and have melted into the mixture. Add some vanilla too.

Step 2:

Pour your fresh mixture into a container, then stick in the freezer for over two hours.

Step 3:

Pour your cold mixture into a strong blender. Blend this mixture until it gets creamy, light and delicious. Serve it right away, or freeze and save for later.

Get creative with your ice cream creations. If vanilla is too plain for you, throw some M&M’s in the mixture to add a chocolate flavor. Or add some caramel drizzle into the mixture so you can have tasty hints of caramel in your frozen treat. Make dessert fun and create an activity that everyone can enjoy.
