Cool Off With These Ice Cream Spots

By  |

Warm temperatures and sunny skies abound, and with that heat, the best place you can find yourself in is at one of San Diego’s incredible ice cream shops. What’s better than ice cream on a warm summer day? Cool down at one of the spots for your sweet treat.

JoJo’s Creamery – Encinitas

This family-run ice cream shop has been serving up high-quality craft creamy treats that have become a local favorite in Encinitas. Here you’ll find only the best ice cream, with everything in-store made from scratch with care. From their customer favorite cookie dough flavor to several vegan options, JoJo’s is a go-to when it comes to ice cream.

Cauldron Ice Cream – Convoy St.

Liquid nitrogen frozen ice cream is quickly becoming the gold standard, and Cauldron is a veteran to the game. All ice cream is produced in-house, and new flavors are released frequently, so you never get bored. Cauldron is famous for shaping their scoops into roses and tucking them into fresh-baked egg waffle cones.

Salt & Straw – Caminito Court

This newly opened shop in San Diego is quickly proving itself to be a favorite. These Portland-based ice cream artists are bringing their expertise to San Diego, providing creative seasonal flavors, like San Diego Strawberry & Lemon Verbena Curd and Birthday Cake & Blackberries. They even have a monthly subscription called Pints Club, so you can keep your freezer stocked at all times.

Freeze San Diego – Convoy St.

Insta-worthy ice cream cones are the name of the game at Freeze. Each cone is made-to-order with liquid nitrogen, with vivid colors that seemingly pop out of the black-colored waffle cones. You’re not going to find any bland flavors here either. Try out spectacular scoops like Black Magic, a charcoal butterscotch flavor ice cream dusted with butterscotch morsels. If you want to get real wild, check out the Chamango, a mango sorbet drizzled with spicy chamoy and tajin for a blend of fire and ice.

Hammond’s – Pacific Beach, North Park, & Point Loma

With locations all throughout San Diego, Hammond’s is home to the all-star ice cream flights. Across its three stores, Hammond’s offers more than 300 flavors, and each is made super-premium, meaning you’ll get a rich and creamy texture in each bite. You’ll find unique flavors like Peanut Butter Guava Jelly and Chocolate Coconut Macadamia Nut. With so many flavors, choosing can be tough, but thankfully they offer a six-flavor flight so you can make some progress in trying them all. If you’re feeling brave, you can go for a Flight of 32 Flavors, but maybe bring a friend to share in the glory.
