7 Tips for a Summer-Ready Backyard

By  |

Believe it or not spring is here and summer is coming soon. Don’t you just want to be outside?

The Company Store, now celebrating their 100th anniversary, recently launched a micro site to provide consumers with helpful tips for all their design woes.  Below is info on how you can get organized now so your backyard is ready for sunny weather.

7 Tips for a Summer-Ready Backyard

* Start planning for planting. Nothing ushers in spring as visually as perusing seed catalogs or clicking on gardening websites. Make a list of flowers or vegetables you’d like to try this year, and be sure to choose varieties that will thrive in your climate. Planning early ensures that you’ll plant early enough to enjoy the full season of all your plants.

* Power wash your patio or deck. You can spend money on new patio furniture and endless hours getting your garden in shape, but all that hard work is tarnished if your patio isn’t up to par. If you don’t own a power washer, you can easily rent one. Just call around to your local rental centers and home stores now to find the best price.

* Clean your patio furniture. Even if it’s been covered or stored safely in your garage or shed all winter, furniture will still need a good cleaning. Use a mild dishwashing soap and a soft brush to spruce up your outdoor furniture.

* Clean your grill, inside and out. When the mood hits for that first barbequed steak, you’re not going to want to spend time scrubbing and scraping. For best results, use a wire brush after every use and you’ll only need a quick touchup the next time you fire up the grill.

* Pick-up stray sticks and leaves, and trim back shrubs or bushes that look scraggly. Not only is an unkempt yard unsightly for guests, sticks can be a tripping hazard.

* Add fresh mulch to flower beds and other landscaped areas. This will give your patio and/or deck a beautiful, cleaned-up appearance while protecting young shoots as they sprout in early spring.

* Shop catalogs and websites for attractive accessories to give your deck, porch or patio the feeling of an outdoor living space. Many brands, including The Company Store, offer pre-season sales so you can get amazing deals by starting early.
