Summer weather is officially here and San Diego sure is ready. What says summer like the fair? That’s right, the San Diego County Fair is opening this Friday with musical performances by Tinashe and many more. Head to Balboa Park for their Food Truck Friday event with food from over a dozen food trucks. Enjoy America’s favorite past-time by watching a baseball game at Petco Park. There’s tons to do this weekend in San Diego.

San Diego County Fair

The County Fair opens this Friday at 4:00 pm the Del Mar Fairgrounds with a their candy theme “How Sweet Is It”. Over 26 days, this years fair will will feature over 1,800 live performances, livestock, fun fair rides, and food & beverages from over 400 different vendors. The fair runs through the Fourth of July but is closed Monday and Tuesdays (Except July 2-3). Get your tickets here.

Food Truck Friday at Balboa Park

Kick off your summer weekends in style every Friday evening at Balboa Park’s hottest after-hours event from 4-8:30 pm., visitors of all ages can enjoy live entertainment and activities for kids while eating gourmet dishes from a rotating selection of more than a dozen popular food trucks parked on the Plaza de Panama and El Prado walkway. Throughout the summer, Food Truck Fridays will present different musical performers or DJs each night in the Plaza de Panama.

Rooftop Cinema Club just arrived in San Diego, and will be showing films atop Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego. With its stunning views of the city from every angle imaginable, Rooftop Cinema Club is revolutionizing the movie-going experience in its unique and one-of-a-kind setting underneath and among the stars. Open to adults 18-and-over. Ticket prices start at just $17 per person for a single deck-chair underneath the moon and the stars. Showing is at 6:30pm.

Sip the City

Join San Diego Urban Wineries, a collective of San Diego’s urban wineries that take grapes from the country to make wine in the city, at ‘Sip The City,’ the organization’s annual kick-off event to its San Diego Urban Wine Week. Oenophiles are invited to taste unlimited sips from over a dozen of its members, including Carruth Cellars, Vesper Vineyards and Solterra Winery. Along with the sips, enjoy live entertainment in the Headquarters’ beautiful outdoor courtyard, plus delicious bites. Get your tickets for $25 here. ($35 at the door) Event starts at 5:30pm.

Japan Society’s Beer & Sake Festival

Head to Harrah’s Resort to experience a popular and fast-growing charity tasting event featuring local restaurants serving sumptuous appetizers and breweries pouring tasty beers and sakes. The festival also includes art booths, a silent auction, a raffle, and exciting entertainment. Guests will enjoy the dynamic sounds of San Diego Taiko and a tuna cutting demonstration. Proceeds from the Beer & Sake Festival support educational and community outreach programs. Tickets are $60.

San Diego Padres v. Cincinnati Reds

The game begins at 7:10 pm, but get there early to enjoy a pre-game happy hour in Park at the Park from 4:30-7:00 p.m. featuring live music, $5 drinks, and $5 food specials from some of Petco Park’s most popular restaurants. Game Highlight: College Night – Join hundreds of other college students for a night of fun and Padres baseball. College Night tickets start at just $15. Get your tickets here.

Noodle Cook Off

The San Diego Chinese Historical Museum is hosting Mike Chen of the well-known Simply Dumpling YouTube channel for a lunchtime noodle competition from 11 am – 2 pm. Participating local chefs will be challenged by all using one similar ingredient, 99-cent packaged noodles, and turning it into a masterpiece dish for both guest judge Mike Chen and event goers to enjoy. Along with one-of-a-kind noodle dish samplings, guests will enjoy appetizers and small bites, and local Duck Foot Brewing Company will be providing beer to wash it down. Tickets are $35.

Carruth Winery Rail Trail with the Winemaker

All aboard the Carruth Cellars Express. Take advantage of our local Coaster transit service and enjoy a tour of our Winery & Tasting Rooms and Wine Garden. This is more than your average wine tasting experience, you’ll learn all about the winemaking process, share some wine straight from the barrel, have lunch, and enjoy a curated wine and cheese pairing, all while taking in the coastal views from the train. Tickets start at $45.

Street Food Cinema – The Greatest Showman 

Warm afternoons give way to gorgeous sunsets, and as the night wanes, our ‘foodie’ night market goers will be wowed by The Boulevard’s 2018 plan for transformation of El Cajon Blvd & Utah St into an expansive outdoor movie theatre and culinary hub.  The season will kick off a truly one of a kind spectacle with The Greatest Showman at 8:30pm. Doors open at 5:30pm. Live music begins at 6:30pm. Prices vary, kids 5 and under are free. Get your tickets here.

Escape Sundays at the Upper East Bar

The Upper East Bar atop the trendy Kimpton Solamar Hotel will be hosting their Escape Sundays event from 12-5pm, a relaxing poolside rooftop experience complete with a live DJ. Enjoy all day food & drink specials, including $5 draft beers. Sundays are for the girls, so grab your girl gang and recap the weekend over a bottle (or 2) of their $20 dry Rosé.

Liberty Public Market: The Counterfeits

Head to Liberty Public Market from 1-4pm to check out this week’s feature band, The Counterfeits. Formed by a group of friends who enjoyed just getting together to jam, “The Counterfeits” were soon wowing people with their unique and intriguing sound by performing well chosen top 40s covers and a nice blend of their very own “feel good” originals. They guarantee that there will be something for everyone.

Wine & Canvas Painting at Gordon Biersch Brewery 

Head to Gordon Biersch Brewery in Mission Valley to enjoy a Sunday of wine and painting. The instructor will give you step by step instructions to recreate the featured piece: tulips in spring time, while you sip on some fantastic wines and chat with friends. The event is from 1-4pm, tickets are $35.

North San Diego Farmer’s Market

Head to the Sikes Adobe Farmhouse for freshly prepared foods by local food artisans every Sunday from 10:30am – 3:30pm. This local weekly event is managed by residents of the local area, featuring local farmers, growers, and small businesses.
