This weekend kicks off with a very special lunar eclipse that will be showcase longest blood moon of the century. Sadly, by the time night falls in North America and the full moon rises here, the eclipse will already have ended. Luckily, The astronomy education website Slooh will live-stream coverage of the eclipse starting at 1 pm Eastern on July 27.

Waves are supposed to be big this weekend, ideal for the weekend-long Supergirl Surf Pro Competition. Head to the Del Mar Racetrack this Friday to catch reggae band, Steel Pulse perform. Controversial comedian Kathy Griffin will be stopping in San Diego during her “Laugh Your Head Off” World Tour. Check out what else is going on this weekend in San Diego.

Supergirl Surf Pro Competition in Oceanside

The world’s top professional female surfers are back in Oceanside, CA for the 11th Supergirl Surf Pro, a weekend-long event at the Junior Seau Oceanside Pier Amphitheatre. This FREE event is the world’s largest women’s surf competition and music festival. Music line up includes performances by Mittens, Madison Beer, Cody Simpson, and Drake Bell. Entertainment also includes workout classes throughout the day and skateboard clinics and more. Featured Surfers include superstars 6x World Champ Stephanie Gilmore, 3x World Champ Carissa Moore, #1 ranked Lakey Peterson, Alana Blanchard, Sage Erickson, Malia Manuel, Caroline Marks, Johanne Defay, Tatiana Weston-Webb, Coco Ho, ’17 champ Courtney Conlogue, and more.

Food Truck Fridays at Balboa Park

Kick off your summer weekends in style every Friday evening at Balboa Park’s hottest after-hours event from 4:00 -8:30 pm. Visitors of all ages can enjoy live entertainment and activities for kids while eating gourmet dishes from a rotating selection of more than a dozen popular food trucks parked on the Plaza de Panama and El Prado walkway. Throughout the summer, Food Truck Fridays will present different musical performers or DJs each night in the Plaza de Panama.

San Diego Padres v. Arizona Diamondbacks

Friday is Marvel Super Hero Day at Petco Park, where the theme game ticket includes a Padres-themed Ant-Man and The Wasp Bobblehead and ticket to the Diamondbacks vs. Padres game. Enjoy the game in your costume, photos with characters and themed in-game entertainment. Cruisin’ Grand in Escondido

A time warp hits downtown Escondido from 5:00 – 9:00 pm. The streets are filled with strolling people of all ages, while a parade of pre-1970s vintage cars slowly cruises up and down Grand Avenue. All kinds of vintage cars – from American Hot Rods, Classics, Antiques, and Customs – help make seven blocks of Escondido the place to be on Friday nights.

St. Archer’s Party in the Plaza w/ Steel Pulse

Enjoy half-off all of Del Mar’s carefully-crafted signature cocktails and a special Saint Archer small batch brew unique to Del Mar during Happy Hour Fridays from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. Then stay for live musical performances throughout the evening, ending with the Friday headliner performance by reggae legend, Steel Pulse. All performances will take place in the seaside concert area and begin shortly after the last race of the day. Encinitas Flea Market

Don’t miss the second Encinitas Flea Market this Saturday from 10:00 am to-3:00 pm. The Art/Vintage/Treasure Encinitas Flea Market will be held at the Encinitas City Hall off of Vulcan Ave. with parking in the lower lot and train station parking facilities. Money raised will go to support the Encinitas Friends of the Arts and their arts and culture projects including Dia de los Muertos.

Queens at the La Jolla Playhouse

SIP of Julian

The 4th Annual ‘Sip of Julian’ will feature many of Julian’s alcoholic beverage purveyors. Not just about apples and great pie, growers and producers of wine, craft beer, mead (honey wine), craft cocktails, and delicious hard cider, will be offering up a sampling of their delicious hand-crafted specialties. Wine tasting takes place at Historic Rancho Guejito Vinyard which is now open to the public every Sunday from 12:00 – 7:00 pm.
