As we inch closer to the holiday season, yuletide cheer and festivities are starting to unravel in America’s finest city. It’s never too early to bust out the stockings and bump the Christmas tunes. It’s the most wonderful time of the year and this city is gearing up to celebrate – San Diego style. While we may not be building snowmen or hurling snowballs at one another, there is still tons to do to get into the holiday spirit.

This weekend in San Diego features, a wonderful Christmas tree lighting at the Old Globe, fabulous food festivals, horse racing, live music and much more for family and friends to enjoy.

Friday, November 15

Holiday Appetizers and Festival Cocktails at Ranch 45

In conjunction with the San Diego Bay Wine and Food Festival, Ranch 45 in Solana Beach will be preparing holiday appetizers and festive cocktails to ring in the holiday cheer. It’s never too early to start planning your holiday menu and what better way than tasting along as famed culinary personalities and cookbook authors Gale Gand and The Hearty Boys prepare a series of holiday appetizers and festive cocktails for you! Walk away with plenty of holiday cheer and recipes to boot! Tastings will be available to those from 2-4 pm. General admission tickets are $65 per person.

Del Mar Antiques Art and Design Show

With over 100 exhibitors attending the show, there will be a wide range of fine antique furniture, silver, paintings, jewelry and much more! The weekend-long event will take place at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. Tickets are $8 per person.

Melissa Ethridge at the Poway Center for Performing Arts

Alternative rock singer-songwriter, Melissa Ethridge will be performing at the Poway Center For The Performing Arts. Known for hits like “I’m The Only One,” “Like The Way I Do,” and more, Ethridge will take the stage at 8 pm. Tickets are $162.

Art After Hours

From 5-8 pm, for only $5 per person, experience 20 galleries along with live music in the May S. Marcy Sculpture Court. Admission is free for members, and youth 17 & under. College students with need to show their ID for free admission.

Holiday Tree Lighting at the Carlsbad Premium Outlets

Kick-off the holidays with an evening of live holiday performances, enter to win, Santa, and complimentary coffee & cocoa for the whole family which will culminate in the lighting of the tree at the Carlsbad Premium Outlets.

Saturday, November 16

Seadragons & Seahorses

View your favorite sea creatures at Birch Aquarium this weekend as they unveil a new permanent exhibition of seadragons and seahorses. The 18-foot-wide, 9-foot-tall exhibit holds 5,375 gallons of water — that’s equivalent to 70 bathtubs! General admission is $19.50, kids 2 years and under are free.

San Diego Distillers Guild Festival

Gather your friends, grab your tickets and mingle among hundreds of cocktail connoisseurs inside Liberty Station’s Building 177 from 6- 10 pm. Experience various flavors of twenty local craft distilleries and an amazing ambiance. Tickets start at $60.

Bikes and Beer

Bikes and Beers are back for the 6th Year! Featuring 15 and 30-mile rides departing from Societe Brewing and traveling through America’s Finest City. All proceeds will go toward the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition to help improve the cycling conditions in San Diego. The event is $60 per person and will go from 9-2 pm.

Best Salsa Fest

Sample Salsa from multiple vendors competing for your vote to win the title at Best Salsa Fest at Thorn Brewing from 1-5 pm. Receive your hefty bag of locally made tortilla chips when you enter the event and make your way around sampling and voting for your favorite salsa. Beer from Thorn Brewing and food vendors with tacos and other local favorites available for purchase.

Cold Brew City Fest

Join other coffee lovers at the Cold Brew City Fest from 1-5 pm in Bankers Hill at Parq West. A coffee cold brew competition will take place for the best makers in San Riverside, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Tijuana, and Ensenada. General admission is $15 per person, which includes col brew tastings, cold brew making demos, live music, an raffle prizes.

San Diego Gulls vs Ontario Reign

Kick back at the rink and watch your favorite San Diego hockey team play against Ontario Reign at 7 pm. The ticket prices range but start at $15. Food and drink vendors will be available throughout the game.

Free Your Breath Yoga Fundraiser

Free Your Breath is a yoga fundraiser event created to raise awareness and funds for lung cancer research. Come on out for an all-levels heart-opening hour of vinyasa flow. The event will take place at 1450 Market St. Doors open at 9 am, the yoga flow will start promptly at 10 am, followed by a social hour to scope out some amazing vendors and sip on cocktails and kombucha. All tickets are donation-based, with a suggested donation of $15.00. Even if you are not physically able to make it to the event, you may purchase a ticket as your way of helping the cause.

Christmas Tree Lighting

The 14th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting is back at the Old Globe to ring in the holiday cheer! At 6 pm, this fun family event will feature a live performance by members of the Grinch cast and a wonderful holiday snowfall. All available tickets have been reserved. There will be a standby line that forms at 5:00 p.m., an hour before the Tree Lighting. Standby guests will be given access after all the tick-holders have entered the plaza.

Prime Rib Dinner on the Hornblower Cruise

Gather your family and friends for an exceptional dining experience. Enjoy a delicious slow-roasted prime rib, live musical entertainment and amazing views of the San Diego skyline like you’ve never seen before. A hosted bar is available all evening long for $30 per person.

Paint and Sip

Step into your inner Picasso at Paint & Sip night in Rancho Bernardo from 7:30-9:30 pm. Event is $37 a person, with canvases, paint and paintbrushes included. The bar is available for those 21 and over, you can not bring in your own liquor.

Hillcrest Farmers Market

Start your day off with some shopping, browsing through art or sampling delicious food at the Hillcrest Farmers Market. The market takes place at the Hillcrest DMV and is open from 9 am-2 pm.
