Liberty Station Tree Lighting & Holiday Festivities Kicks of Salute the Season in the Neighborhood

By  |

Create holiday memories with your family and get started on Christmas shopping early at the annual Liberty Station Tree Lighting & Holiday Festivities on Wednesday, November 29, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Liberty Station welcomes San Diego locals and visitors to gather around Liberty Station’s iconic 88-foot Norfolk pine tree decked out in lights from top to bottom as well as shop at the holiday pop-up market, take mini train rides on the Liberty Express, enjoy live entertainment, capture photos with Santa, watch an outdoor viewing of How the Grinch Stole Christmas and more.

“Transforming into a holiday spectacle, Liberty Station invites San Diegans and the community to partake in the joy of the season,” said Marco Li Mandri, Executive Director of the Liberty Station Community Association. “The neighborhood will be the perfect place to capture seasonal family photos and create lasting holiday memories with your loved ones.”

Attendees will want to gather their loved ones in Liberty Station’s North Promenade for live entertainment from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and then gaze upon the 88-foot Norfolk pine tree as it is lit by a patient family of Rady Children’s Hospital at 6:15 p.m. After the lighting, entertainment will presume and give attendees the time to explore the other festive activities happening around the neighborhood.

Guests of all ages are encouraged to take a ride on the Liberty Express, a fun mini train ride transporting passengers around Liberty Station’s Central Promenade. Guests will be able to board and step off the train along Dewey Road between North and Central Promenade. If you want to cross some gifts off your list, head to the seasonal vendors at the holiday pop-up market or make your way to the Central Promenade, where the Holiday Marketplace will be set up around the Rady Children’s Ice Rink. Both markets will have local vendors selling holiday goodies and gifts so you can get started on crossing gifts off your list! The Holiday Marketplace will be open every Friday – Sunday for the entire season—closing on Sunday, Jan. 7. The community stage at the Holiday Marketplace will have surprises from the North Pole, spotlight entertainment and performances happening every weekend at Liberty Station.

After attendees are done exploring all the holiday happenings at the Liberty Station Tree Lighting & Holiday Festivities, they can grab dinner from the surrounding restaurants or food vendors, spread a cozy picnic blanket out on the lawn, and enjoy an outdoor viewing of How the Grinch Stole Christmas, which will be projected onto a custom-made sail by a local craftsman.

Filled with festive activities and Christmas celebrations galore, the Liberty Station Tree Lighting & Holiday Festivities is the perfect way to start the holiday season with your family.
