This Week in San Diego: Free SummerFest concert preview, the Temper Trap, Hairspray and the Ringling Brothers Circus!

It may be the middle of a work week, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy your evenings with events in San Diego. There are plenty of things to do in San Diego ranging a vast variety. Picnic at a free classical music concert or rock out at the House of Blues. Don’t save the good times for the weekends. Start early.

Wednesday, August 4

If you don’t have the cash to enjoy one of the spectacular concerts in the SummerFest 2010 series, come out to the FREE “SummerFest: Under the Stars” preview, featuring “the sounds of Schumann, Halvorsen, Sarasate, Mendelssohn, Vivaldi and Kabalevsky” and a perfect taster of the coming La Jolla concert series. Get to the Ellen Browning Scripps Park before the 7:30pm show to set out your picnic blanket.

The House of Blues opens its doors to Aussie alternative rock band, The Temper Trap and DJ Brazzabelle. Enjoy Temper Trap hits, including Sweet Disposition and Lost Love alongside Brazzabelle’s electro dance mixes at 8:00pm. Ticket are open to all ages and start at $20 advanced general admission.

The “Greatest Show On Earth,” Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus brings its Funundrun to San Diego for this week only. Don’t miss the show; elephants, trapeze artists, pirates, the rare Watusi and much more. Bring your whole family with tickets starting at $15.

The 8-time Tony Award winning Broadway musical, Hairspray is at San Diego’s Repertory Theatre for just a few more performances. San Diego’s Union-Tribune calls the Repertory’s production a “trailblazer of a staging” for its unique collaboration of talented theatre veterans and equally impressive rising stars from San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts. Reviews assert that this is no high school production but a unique and energetic performance by all. Tickets can be purchased online starting at $39.
