In this episode: San Diego Film Festival, cruises along the bay & interview with singer/songwriter Mizz Mandy
September in San Diego was one for the record books, especially when you consider our very own Film Festival and the record-breaking heat wave that still seems to be going strong. Despite the high temperature, people showed in droves to check out the San Diego Film Festival, attracting many high-profile names, even iconic filmmaker Gus Van Sant showed for a special tribute. October has a lot of competition but we have a feeling it’s going to be memorable no matter what happens and we’ll be here to make sure you don’t miss a thing.
The Gaslamp Quarter was a writhing mass of bodies during one of San Diego’s most important events, the Film Festival. Internationally recognized, the festival brought breakthrough films and their innovative creators to the people that matter the most, the fans. With a new board, the festival is gearing up to become San Diego’s very own Sundance and was expanded for the first time to include locations in La Jolla. Considering they snatched Gus Van Sant to appear at a tribute in his honor, the board seems to be doing a good job getting San Diego recognized as important and integral. Who knows? In a few years our city could become one of the most important places for independent film. If you missed out on the festival, check out sdfilmfest.com for some of the highlights, and make sure to get your pass for next year so you don’t have to hear about it from someone else.
