Craft Brewery Spotlight: Kilowatt Brewing

By  |

Kilowatt is a nanobrewery with a reputation for killer brews and a unique atmosphere. Their original location is in Clairemont Mesa and they recently opened up another tasting room in Ocean Beach. If you’re looking to have a good time, play some games, and make some friends while you throw a few back, this is the spot for you.

The brewery is known for its handcrafted, all natural, traditional brewing with unique ingredients. (We suggest the Coconut Chai Porter, the Chocolate Macadamia Nut Stout, the Green Teal Ale, or the Bourbon Vanilla Oak Amber.) As a nanobrewery, Kilowatt focuses on very small batch brewing, which allows them to continuously experiment with ingredients in order to produce unique styled, hand-crafted beer. Another benefit of a nanobrewery is the ability to regularly introduce uncommon ingredients and combinations in the beer. Kilowatt’s recipes are created by incorporating feedback and ideas from our customers, allowing us to be a collaborative, community-based brewery. When you hang at Kilowatt, you really feel like part of the family.

As a small, community-based brewery, Kilowatt strives to educate patrons about their product. This brewery is perfect if you are a newcomer to the world of craft beer. Compared to much of the mass produced and impersonal atmospheres of larger breweries, Kilowatt’s goal is that you will leave the tap room with a better understanding of craft beer. The staff at both locations are helpful and knowledgeable when it comes to the products and process. They are more than happy to answer your questions and you can tell that craft beer is their passion.

Aside from the tasty brews that Kilowatt is becoming known for, the vibe and atmosphere of their tasting rooms are second to none. The taprooms feature creative lighting, interactive art, and rotating artwork by local artists. Not to mention the games: the life sized Lite Brite will blow your mind. There’s also Jenga and Connect Four. It’s pretty difficult to not have a good time at Kilowatt.

Another great thing about this brewery: the rotating outside chefs and food trucks. For special events, Kilowatt will call on specialty food trucks and chefs for special events. The last event was a beer and macaron pairing with Nomad Donuts. Check here to see what special events they’ll think of next.

We hope that you think of Kilowatt next time you have a hankering for a beer when you’re in Clairemont Mesa or Ocean Beach.
