Bottoms Up! Today is National Tequila Day

By  |

Originally created by fermenting agave plants, tequila is a popular liqueur both for adding to festive, fruity margaritas or sipping on its own. And since today is National Tequila Day, we’ve compiled some great places in San Diego to enjoy margaritas, tequila flights or shots.

Jalisco Cantina

Jalisco Cantina, an Oceanside spot named for the region of Mexico that is home to the finest tequilas in the world, takes pride in offering an extensive selection of margaritas and cocktails. The area of central-coastal Mexico thrives with blue agave plants used to make the tequila in many of the bar’s drinks, such as the Jalisco Sunrise. The fresh orange, combined with CaliFino Reposado, orange curacao and pama liqueur all create an invigorating and citrusy drink, perfect for summertime sipping.

Del Sur Mexican Cantina

Whether you prefer to celebrate with tequila flights, margaritas or straight up shots, South Park’s Del Sur Mexican Cantina is a great place to spend National Tequila Day. Six types of tequila can be found on the menu, ranging from Xicaru Espadin Mezcal to Don Julio Reposado. This vibrant eatery also offers six different tequila flights, ideal for tasting and savoring, along with an impressive lineup of margaritas including the Passion Fruit Margarita. Sweet flavors of passion fruit and lime agave blend with 100 percent agave blanco tequila in a glass with a sugary rim.

Topside Terrace Kitchen + Bar at Hotel Republic

San Diego’s Topside Terrace Kitchen + Bar at Hotel Republic is launching a new tequila cocktail program incorporating French pressed cocktails — that’s right, we’re talking the same formerly on-note kitchen tool you may be using for your morning cup o’ joe. Starting on National Tequila Day, Hotel Republic is launching these interactive, tableside cocktail preparations to San Diego’s imbibers. Try the Blanco, made with Casamigos Blanco, lemon juice, dried rose petals, orange bitters, and strawberries.

Miss B’s Coconut Club

Located steps from the sand in Mission Beach, Miss B’s Coconut Club specializes in Caribbean-inspired cocktails. Tequila is featured in several of their delicious drinks, such as the Mango, Unchained. Ancho Reyes, tequila, tamarind liqueur, fresh lime and mango agave are combined to create this sweet and spicy cocktail that’ll transport you to a tropical island vacation.

The Rail

Stop by The Rail, a happening Hillcrest restaurant, and bar, to celebrate National Tequila Day on July 24th. Try El Pachuco, a refreshing and zesty beverage made with Herradura Blanco Tequila, Giffard Pamplemousse Liqueur and fresh lime. Compliment with a bowl of Frida’s Queso, a creamy dip with fresh pico de gallo and tortilla chips.

Waterbar

Panoramic views and tequila libations can both be found at Pacific Beach’s Waterbar, located alongside the vibrant ocean-front boardwalk. Snag a table next to the windows and enjoy watching the waves crash as you dine and drink. For National Tequila Day, try the Mermaids Are Real, made with Herradura Blanco, basil, agave, lime, and raspberry. Nosh on the Fish Street Tacos consisting of local rockfish, cabbage, serrano pepper, crema, and salsa – a great compliment for any of Waterbar’s tequila cocktails.
