Karaoke Venues to Sing Your Heart Out

By  |

Sometimes you just need to blow off some steam with an Eminem rap, or get your girlfriends together for a horrible rendition of Spice Girls’ “If you wannabe my lover,” or maybe bring back the 80’s with a soulful “Total Eclipse of the Heart.” Luckily, there’s a place for that!

There’s nothing quite like the feeling of getting up on stage in front of a crowd and belting out your favorite tunes. If you’re an introvert, this might sound like your worst nightmare until you have a couple of drinks in your system. If you’re an extrovert and don’t care what people think of your voice, this might become your new favorite hobby. Wherever you fall on the spectrum, karaoke is meant to be about having fun and enjoying your company with the commonality of a song.

Here are a few of our favorite places to sing it out, and maybe even find a new bar to call home:

Smitty’s – Vista

This bar, with a small town feel, is a local’s favorite. Grab a drink at the dimly lit bar and make your song requests early because this place gets busy. With dancing lights, a dance floor, and bar stools a few feet from the stage, Smitty’s will soon become a place you can’t stay away from. Dive bars for the win!

Address: 119 E Broadway

Karaoke from 9PM-Midnight Daily

Lamplighter – Mission Hills

Come prepared with some dough to buy a drink from this cash-only bar and tip out your KJ. This neighborhood dive bar is open almost 24/7, with closed hours only from 2AM-6AM. Come early and grab a seat for their nightly karaoke rotation. Step onto the stage that will make you feel like a rock star and invite others to dance with you. Expect to hear a regular at Lamplighter rap his version of Eminem’s Rock God, and enjoy the creativity of original lyrics.

Address: 817 W. Washington St.

Karaoke starts at 9:15PM Daily

Winston’s- Ocean Beach

Setting foot in OB can feel like a different world, and that’s why Winston’s hosts the original OB-oke. At Winston’s, you will truly feel like a celebrity. Their “lovely orchestral conductor” helps make singers of all levels sound their best with stage lights, a fog machine, and even a disco ball. The night is led by Jose Sinatra, vocal frontman of Jose Sinatra and the Troy Dante Inferno, which means you are going to receive top-notch care from a guy in the music industry. Drink specials, a fun environment, a disco ball — what more could you want?

Analog- Downtown

Experience a unique bar that embraces live music. Every Thursday night, Analog hosts “Rock N’ Thursdays,” with happy hour drink specials all night long.
