Craft Beer Capital of the nation rains true this weekend, with tons of new releases from our favorite breweries, and awesome parties to accompany the new brews. Music lovers out there? You’re in for a treat this weekend. As the weather warms, pack up your picnic baskets and blankets and let the outdoor movie season begin with all your favorites. 27th Annual Mama’s Day 

The 27th annual Mama’s Day is scheduled for Friday, May 11, 2018 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla at Aventine located at 3777 La Jolla Village Drive. The fundraising event will feature more than 50 chefs offering distinctive tastes ranging from San Diego’s finest restaurants to the city’s top of the line hotels and catering companies, who will graciously prepare delicious samples for nearly 600 attendees. Guests will enjoy food, live music, and fun throughout the evening while dining on distinctive dishes graciously prepared and served by executive chefs from some of the region’s top restaurants. Get ready for the largest Louisiana-themed music and food festival this side of the Mississippi, returns to San Diego’s Spanish Landing Park May 10-13 for its 17th year. The four-day festival makes for a jam-packed weekend of live music from over 100 musical acts, dancing on five different dance floors and authentic southern culture and cuisine like 10,000 pounds of fresh crawfish trucked all the way from Opelousas, Louisiana. Costume-Con 36

Costume-Con is an international convention that has been devoted to costuming of all kinds since 1983, welcoming costume designers, cosplayers, historical reenactors, doll dressmakers, science fiction enthusiasts, fantasy, fans, and more. Themed marketplace, vendors, panels, workshops, costume competitions, food. This year’s theme is Ports of Call. Saturday, May 12 Rooftop Cinema Club just arrived in San Diego, and will be showing films atop Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego. With its stunning views of the city from every angle imaginable, Rooftop Cinema Club is revolutionizing the movie-going experience in its unique and one-of-a-kind setting underneath and among the stars. Open to adults 18-and-over. Ticket prices start at just $17 per person for a single deck-chair underneath the moon and the stars. Showing is at 7:30pm

 

The Chainsmokers and Miguel at Mattress Firm Amphitheatre

The Channel 93.3 Summer Kick Off Concert is headlined by the Chainsmokers, Miguel, and Ne-Yo. Grab your friends and had to the Mattress Firm Amphiteatre. (FYI Lawn tickets are only $25, score!) Padres vs. The Cardinals

Get ready to party in the park during PetCo’s BeerFest! There will be a pre-game happy hour in park at the park from 4:30-7:00 p.m. featuring $5 beer specials from local and national breweries and live music. TECH N9NE at the House of Blues

SiriusXM Shade 45 Presents: Tech N9ne, Krizz Kaliko, Just Juice, Joey Cool, King ISO, Mackenzie Nicole will be performing at the House of Blues. This rap frenzy will be sure keep you moving all night long. Tech N9ne’s Planet Tour 2018 is named after the forthcoming Planet album, which released in March. FIST Combat Championship at Bay City Brewing 

Head to Bay City Brewing to witness 6 big match ups in FISTS monthly bar fight. Don’t miss ‘Uptown’ Andy Brown defend his championship against Douglas James in a one-on-one match up for that title. They have had several knock down, drag out fights, a cage match, and they even ripped each other apart with barbed wire last month. Click here for tickets and more info. Also check out Bay City Brewing’s new Rad Summer Series. Fruity beer is having a moment… and one San Diego craft brewery is serving it up big-time this summer. Bay City Brewing will launch a series of hyperlocal and totally unique radlers for the highly-anticipated Rad Summer Series. The radlers are brewed with fresh fruits from brewery owner Greg Anderson’s backyard — like the Peel Better radler which uses his orange tree peels. Liver Life Walk San Diego

Change the face of liver disease by heading to Liberty Station NTC Park – 2455 Cushing Road, San Diego. Your participation will bring awareness to liver disease and provide financial support for our educational programs and patient services offered to the millions of Americans battling one of the 100 known liver diseases. Liver Life Walk features a festival-type atmosphere including activities for kids, food, entertainment and information about the American Liver Foundation. There is a $20 registration fee for all walkers 18 years and older. Children, 17 years and younger, do not have to pay a fee to participate. Registration begins at 8:30am, walk begins at 10am.

Maven & Mason Exchange

Maven & Mason Exchange, the newest addition to San Diego’s urban-style artisan markets, features 50 local vendors specializing in handmade, boutique items. Head to Innovations Academy Charter School at Scripps Ranch from 9am to 4pm for music, food, fun and a unique shopping experience. Buyers and Vendors Welcome. $2 admission for buyers. Children under 14 and Military are FREE.

Ocean Beach Kite Festival 

It’s the 70th Annual Kite Festival in Ocean Beach. There will be kite building and decorating, prizes, professional kite flier, kite demonstrations and games, crafters, community organizations, gourmet food, carnival activities, and live music. Youngsters are taught how to make and fly kites. All materials are supplied. There are prizes for the best decorated kites. Any handmade kite can be submitted, not just kites made at the festival. This free family event is the oldest children’s kite festival in the United States.

Chocolate Festival

Spend the Saturday before Mother’s Day at San Diego Botanic Garden’s famous Chocolate Festival. Enjoy dozens of delectable chocolate tastings, demonstrations, a chocolate fountain, and more. This family-friendly event also features lots of children’s activities and a variety of Mother’s Day gifts. “Tasting” tickets will be sold on site. Cost: Free with paid admission or membership. Tasting tickets are a $1 for 1 tasting ticket. Festival is from 10am-4pm.

Calling all lovers of the craft! The San Diego County Credit Union’s Festival of Arts is back for its 22nd year. This annual event runs all day from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and features blocks lined with free fun for all ages. The event will feature over 100 local, San Diegan artists demonstrating their craft through several art mediums. The Live Art Block, located on University Avenue between Iowa and Herman, will feature interactive exhibits with artists using unconventional objects such as trucks, radios, and refrigerators as their canvases. The live art show allows guests to see the talent that goes into each piece, first hand, while getting an amazing opportunity to talk with the artists.

Coyote Music Festival

The 10th Annual Coyote Music Festival takes place on the Cuyamaca College Grand Lawn at 12 pm. This entirely student-run festival provides the community with free music and culminates a semester for students studying music, technology, recording and business.

What’s on Draft at Ebullition Brewery

Whether you are an aficionado or fairly new to brewing, no two guys bring you closer to the behind-the-scenes world of craft beer. Join us, along with Tom Keliinoi & Aaron Mayer, as they preview Season 3 of their online TV series, What’s on Draft. There will also be delicious and authentic Mexican cuisine from Phatties Food Truck exclusively at Ebullition Brew Works for a one night engagement.

Empty Bowls Charity Event

Local potters are creating hand crafted ceramic bowls while some of our favorite restaurants will donate soups and breads. Guests choose a bowl from hundreds on display for only $25.00 and then have it filled with delicious soup. After enjoying this simple meal, the guests take their bowls home as a reminder that their donation has helped to fight hunger. This year the Empty Bowls event is to be held at the La Jolla United Methodist Church from 11am-1pm. All proceeds are donated to Taco, Third Avenue Charitable Organization they have been feeding the hungry, the homeless and the elderly in San Diego for over 42 years. Communities in San Diego are bringing food and art together to feed those that have nothing to put in their bowls.

Second Saturday Cinema: Coco (2017)

Arts District Liberty Station welcomes back its free outdoor film series on the second Saturday of each month from May to October 2018. Evenings feature surprise pop-up performances or activities along with curated shorts preceding the feature film. Movie lovers are encouraged to arrive early and visit the ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station galleries, studios, and museums. Grab a picnic, blanket, or low back chair and spend an evening underneath the stars with friends, family, and neighbors. Movies begin after sunset.

Movie in the Park: Despicable Me 3

Make an evening of it enjoying the fun, family movie Despicable Me 3 (PG-rating) at Glen Park, brought to you by the Encinitas Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department in partnership with Cardiff 101 Main Street. There will be fun activities for the kids before the sun sets, then enjoy a night under the stars and a fun, family movie. Free kid’s activities will be available starting at 6pm. The movie will begin just after dusk (approx 7:15 start). Movie night is a perfect time to spend with your family and friends.

Night Nation Run

The Night Nation Run is the World’s 1st Running Music Festival an ultimate blend of a Music Festival and a Fun Run. Experience a music filled course with Live DJs, Light Shows, Bubble Zones, Neon and Black Lights. Cross the finish line into an Epic Main Stage After Party featuring Top Headliner DJs. This event will be at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.

Franz Ferdinand at the Observatory

Franz Ferdinand is touring in support of their album Always Ascending,  which is the fifth studio album by Scottish indie rock band Franz Ferdinand. It was released on 9 February 2018 through the Domino Recording Company. It is the band’s first non-collaborative album in over four years, following Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action (2013). Kendrick Lamar at the Mattress Firm Amphitheater

The Damn album has been somewhat eclipsed over the past few weeks by a soundtrack record he just curated for Marvel’s Black Panther movie, and so it was probably as much an artistic instant replay as it was a blatant cash-grab a few weeks ago when, hoping to keep the record on people’s tongues and minds, he released a “Collector’s Edition” of Damn featuring the tracks in reverse order, though he needn’t have worried, since Damn cleaned up at this year’s Grammys. The Chula Vista bill includes SZA (currently featured on a single from the Black Panther soundtrack, “All the Stars”), ScHoolboy Q, Jay Rock, Ab-Soul, SiR, and Lance Skiiiwalker. Art Glass Guild Annual Spring Show & Sale

The Art Glass Guild will be hosting their 2018 Spring Patio Show and Sale. This is a wonderful event to view amazing art glass created by local artists all while enjoying the day in San Diego’s Historic Spanish Village in Balboa Park with family and friends. You will see more than thirty juried Artists exhibiting their creations as you stroll the patio in Spanish Village. There will be entertainment for all including: live music, demonstrations featuring torch-work, and glass cutting as well as an area for children & adults alike to create their own unique mosaic art piece to take home.

City Balley Presents Carmina Burana

Carmina Burana is set in Manhattan Island, New York City in 1929. The beating heart of the city is the Edison stock ticker. Bankers and brokers swing their chorus girls to the lively jazz band as their wives raise their children at home. The World Premiere of Geoffrey Gonzalez’s Carmina Burana, based on true events, will transport the audience to a tragic moment in American history. The end of the roaring 20’s and the beginning of the greatest financial crisis of the 20th century. Examining closely a story of how the temptations of the era lead to one losing everything and being collected by the Empress of Fortune. Program also includes Mozart’s Concerto for Flute and Harp.
