Mark Wahlberg Named Highest Paid Actor of 2017

By  |

A rapper who clearly “transformed” into a movie star, Mark Wahlberg, was just announced as the highest paid actor of 2017 and took Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s place. Even though Wahlberg’s hit movie this year Transformers: The Last Knight had low ratings in the box office, he still was awarded the title of highest paid star from Forbes today earning $68 million pretax in the 12 month scoring period.

Even though the movies Wahlberg starred in over the course of the year weren’t the most successful in the theater box offices, that obviously didn’t prevent him from earning the highest pay day according to Forbes. Over the course of the year he starred  in Transformers: The Last Knight, and will be in Daddy’s Home 2 and Ridley Scott’s All the Money in the World later this year. Even with a 15% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the star’s fixed compensation ensured his place on top as the highest paid over the former highest paid actor, “The Rock.”

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson ($65 million), the former No.1 highest paid actor, actually earned more this year than last. He starred in movies like, Baywatch, and Fate of the Furious. He also is starring in the upcoming Jumangi movie, which has earned him millions of dollars more than last year. Another one of his roles that has kept him on top has been his role in HBO’s Ballers.

This year, the top five highest paid actors are Vin Diesel in third ($54.5 million), Adam Sandler in fourth ($50.5 million), and Jackie Chan in fifth ($49 million).

Together, the top ten male actors earned a cumulative amount of $488.5 million, which is three times the amount of earnings for female actresses. The ten top-earning female actresses earned a total amount of $172.5 million. These statistics have been collected between June 1, 2016 and June 1, 2017 before any taxes or fees were added.
