Park View Little League celebrates their trip to the West Regionals

One of the biggest rites of summer for baseball fans is August’s Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa. Each season, teams of 11 and 12 year olds descend on the sleepy town for the biggest kids sporting event in the world.

But in order to punch a ticket to Williamsport, the best teams compete in regional tournaments to decide the winner. The West region, which is comprised of Southern California, Northern California, Arizona, Hawaii, Nevada and Utah, are currently playing in San Bernardino to decide a winner.

Southern California’s representative this year is Chula Vista’s Park View Little League team (a.k.a. “The Green Machine”), and they have destroyed the competition thus far in the tournament. The #2 seeded squad is 4-0 in pool play, and takes on Nevada in the regional semi-finals tomorrow. Just check out these scores after the jump:

  • Aug. 7 — Park View LL 27, Nevada 1
  • Aug. 9 — Park View LL 15, Hawaii 2
  • Aug. 10 — Park View LL 20, Arizona 1
  • Aug. 11 — Park View LL 10, Nevada 5

If the team beats Nevada (Legacy Little League of Las Vegas) tomorrow, they had to the West Region Finals against the winner of the other semi-final match-up between Northern California (Lakeside LL of Granite Bay, Calif.) and Arizona (Arrowhead LL of Glendale, Ariz.). The final will be broadcast on ESPN2 this Sunday at 5 pm.

Winning the West Region would get the squad to Williamsport to compete against the best Little League squads from the rest of the country and the World.

If the kids from Chula Vista can win their region, they would be the first San Diego squad represented at the Little League World Series since the Rancho Buena Vista LL team from Vista made it in 2005.
