Biggest Loser Finale

In last night’s Biggest Loser finale, Patrick House was determined to be the winner after he lost 181 pounds, down from 400 pounds at the beginning of the season — that’s a 45% drop if you didn’t bust out your calculator. As the winner he will receive $250,000 in prize money.

School Board Shooting (with Video)

Yesterday afternoon at a usually calm and typically uneventful school board meeting in Florida, a gunman threatened lives of the school board in response to his wife being fired. The gunman and ex-convict, Clay Duke, interrupted the Bay District School Board meeting, waving his gun and threatening the board members. On the Today show this morning, board members explained that they knew Duke had a death wish, and repeated that he expected to die. After board members tried to talk down the gunman, Duke opened fire. Fortunately he missed his target — as this was happening the school security officer Mike Jones entered the room and fired and struck Duke. After Clay Duke hit the ground he turned the gun on himself and took his own life. To see the video, click here: School Board Shooting Video. As a warning, the footage is graphic.

Time Person of the Year

The Time person of the year for 2010 was chosen. Out of the finalists, Mark Zuckerberg was chosen for his influence on the internet landscape and changing the fabric of human communication as we know it. If you’ve been living under a rock this year, Zuckerberg is the founder and CEO of the social media giant, Facebook. At 26, Zuckerberg is the second youngest winner since Charles Lindbergh who was 25. Previous winners of the honor include Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, President Barack Obama, Vladimir Putin, Bono, President George W. Bush, and Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon. Zuckerberg beat out this years finalists which included the Tea Party (runner up), Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, Hamid Karzai, and the Chilean miners. Did Time make the right choice? What do you think?

Hollywood Breakups

It’s no secret that Hollywood couples usually have a short shelf life, but for these couples, the holiday season marks the end of their love fest:

– Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds call it quits after 2 years of marriage
– “Nip/Tuck” star Dylan Walsh has also filed for divorce from wife of six years, Joanna Going. (Source: TMZ)
– Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter from the hit show “Dexter” have called it quits as well
– Although not married, Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens have also split, citing growing up and growing apart as their main reason.

San Diego resident for over 10 years, I now call this beautiful city home. Originally from the Bay Area, I'm a California girl at heart. I love the outdoors, fitness, food, and a good craft beer (from San Diego of course).
