Upcoming Running Events: Mud Runs, 5Ks and more

By  |

San Diego is one of America’s fittest cities, and perhaps that’s because we have plenty of opportunities to take advantage of exercise and the great outdoors. We enjoy near perfect weather all year, beautiful scenery surrounds us in all directions during our outdoor exercises, and our city hosts an unparalleled amount of fitness events.

Trying to prepare for summer and work on your beach bod? Register for one of these upcoming events and see what all the hype is about:

Del Mar Mud Run

This epicly messy run will be held at the Del Mar Fairgrounds on Saturday, May 13th. The 5k course is made up of 15 mud-filled obstacles meant to work every muscle. You will run, wade, jump, climb, and balance your way through the mud-intensive course. Pro tip: Wear boots instead of running shoes for this one.  All of the mud will act as a suction and it can take the shoes right off your feet if you aren’t wearing the proper footwear.

Once you are arrive at the finish line, clean off and experience the Foam Fest (courtesy of Dr. Bronner’s Magic Foam Experience).

All of this fun is for a good cause: this event is proudly benefiting The Challenged Athletes Foundation’s Operation Rebound Program. This is the premier sports and fitness program for American military personnel, veterans, and first responders with permanent physical disabilities. The program provides unparalleled opportunities to pursue active, athletic lifestyles by offering access to funding for equipment, training, and competition expenses, and sports clinics.

Bay Bridge Run Walk

This unique 4-mile run/walk offers a spectacular panoramic view as participants make their way from downtown San Diego, over the Coronado Bay Bridge, and to the finish line at Coronado’s Tidelands Park.  People look forward to the Bay Bridge Run every year because of its beautiful course and the unique opportunity to run (or walk) across the bridge.

This run benefits the Navy Gold Star Program to honor surviving families of service members who lost their life while on active duty. This program provides long-term assistance and support to survivors and ensures that surviving family members are not forgotten

Wanderlust 108

This three part event is a full day celebration in support of the mindful movement. Wanderlust 108 is a “mindful triathlon” that includes running, yoga, and meditation. You can participate on Saturday, April 15th at Preble Field in NTC Park. The event starts with a non-competitive 5k, followed by 75 minutes of yoga flow (underscored by a DJ). To conclude the event, there will be a 30 minute guided meditation to clear your mind and relax your body.

Night Nation Run

If you like exercise and electronic dance music, this one’s for you. On Saturday, April 15th, the Night Nation Run is coming to the Del Mar Fairgrounds. The Night Nation Run is the world’s first running music festival. The 5k is filled with live music, lights, and lasers. Run, walk, skip or dance through this electrifying adventure with music carrying you every step of the way.  The course is illuminated with lights and DJ stages at every turn. At the finish line, an explosive main stage after party awaits, featuring top EDM DJ’s and special guest celebrity performers.

San Diego offers fitness events that cover all tastes and preferences, from yoga to EDM. We hope you register for an event that spins your wheels and gets you moving.
