AquaVie Fitness + Wellness Club: World-Class Wellness, Right Around the Corner

By  |

We all have them: those need-to-get-away-but-can’t days. Days where we’re desperate to retreat and refresh but instead have to stay put for tomorrow’s work deadline or the kids’ band concert.

You can kiss those days goodbye—or kick them to the corner—thanks to AquaVie Fitness + Wellness Club, located right here in San Diego. Part urban retreat, part state-of-the-art fitness center, AquaVie makes it possible to leave your cares without ever leaving town.

Settle in with a massage and skin treatment. Soothe yourself with a soak. Then unwind in the San Diego sunshine near the rooftop pool or inside the Zen lounge. When you’re ready, you can build your body on one of over 200 state-of-the-art strength and cardio machines, run on the rooftop track, or jump into one of the studios for one of the most dynamic workout classes anywhere. Whatever your mind, body, or spirit calls for, AquaVie has the answer in its four floors and 40,000 square feet.

Worth Skipping Work

Wellness is worth every penny, and AquaVie spared no expense to give it to you in its over-the-top, $14-million facility. Located at 234 Broadway Avenue, and adjacent to the luxe Westgate Hotel (both part of the Grand America Hotels & Resorts collection), AquaVie makes a dramatic welcome, setting the tone for serenity with three-story waterfall and a luxurious lounge near the concierge.

If you manage to break the waterfall’s tranquil trance, the concierge will guide you to an experience that suits your day. “Each space represents an intention that offers something for everybody. Upon arrival, members and hotel guests are invited to choose their wellness path,” said Emily Talbot, Director of Spa and Wellness Services.

That path will send you to one of the four floors, each designed by Hollander Design Group to fulfill a unique intention for the mind, body, and spirit—and fit your time frame. But fair warning: it’s a slippery slope from “I’m just taking a quick sauna” to “I’m not going back to work today.” And with amenities like these, no one can blame you.

Forget Your Old Spa…And Gym

Your urban retreat begins on the first floor, where rich hues of white, arctic blue and brown work tandem with the waterfall to calm your senses from the get-go. Need to blow off steam? Two expansive studios featuring the most up-to-date strength training equipment by IRONGRIP and Technogym run astride the atrium. A retail boutique featuring the finest apparel and accessories means you’ll be ready for anything.

Hit the elevator for floor two, and you’ll enter the kind of locker rooms most spas and gyms only wish they had. The ladies’ includes a steam room, large dry sauna, glass-enclosed showers, hydrotherapy circuits for pain relief and treatments, and contemporary vanities. The guy’s features a hot tub, steam room and sauna that should reset your mind and body.

If rejuvenation is your mission, you’ll keep it going to plan at the Spa at AquaVie. There, you can choose from expert services including body therapy, massage, skin care, waxing and nail care. Or you can choose not choose, and just do them all—after you finish your organic tea and spa water in the Zen lounge.

If sweat’s your intent, you’ll want to head up to the third floor. It’s got an eye-popping array of cardio equipment including the Excite line by Technogym, Precor’s Experience Series 880 and a strength training line by Technogym’s Element. But you don’t have to go it alone: two bustling exercise studios host daily group classes to guide you to your fitness goals while having fun doing it.

Mother Nature is the greatest retreat, which is why AquaVie created a 15,000 square foot rooftop. There, you can recover from your workout in the outdoor hot tub and soak up some sun in the lounge area—all while gazing at the living serenity wall. Not ready to relax? Swim laps in the Junior Olympic-sized pool, run on the 1/10th mile running track, or check out one of the three private studios with wellness equipment. But you’re perfectly entitled to a nap.
