Weekend Events in San Diego: Literature, Laswell, and the Undead

The sizzling Southern California sun is out to play this weekend, so be sure to take advantage as Summer draws nearer each day. Here are some great events coming up as we enter into another wonderful month in 2011.

Concerts

Big things planned for this weekend in the world of music. Before stopping by the House of Blues for Revolt Tour 2011 Friday night, hop over to Sam Goody in Horton Plaza at 6pm for an in-store signing with headliners Hollywood Undead.

Also in town that night  in the legendary DJ Quik at 4th & B. The talented producer and MC, whose worked with Hip Hop’s finest, including Ludacris, Talib Kweli, Jay-Z, and Tupac. Make sure to also catch Fobia the night before at 4th & B as well as Greg Laswell on Saturday at Anthology.

Shows

Best-selling author and award-winning humorist David Sedaris heads over to Balboa Theatre on Saturday, April 30. It will be a night of laughs and literature as he reads from his new book as well as some of the classics.It is Dressage Week at the Del Mar National Horse Show from April 28th to May 1st. Attend Saturday night and enjoy and Evening of Musical Freestyles where magnificent stallions and mares take over the Del Mar Fairgrounds.

To enjoy the wonderful sunshine around this weekend, take advantage of half price off select museum admissions at Balboa Park then skip down to the Botanical Gardens to view the 52nd Annual Easter Lily Display for the last weekend.

For some art and culture, head over to Little Italy for this year’s Mission Federal ArtWalk this weekend as well. Celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month at NTC Park in Point Loma for the Asian Cultural Festival of San Diego.

Cinco de Mayo

Even though the fifth of May isn’t until next Thursday, the celebrations start a weekend early at Old Town. Head over On Saturday or Sunday to check out some food specials, Lowrider lane, beer garden and tequila testing at their 28th Annual Fiesta Old Town Cinco De Mayo. There will be a free community fiesta at La Colonia Park for Cinco de Mayo in Solana Beach as well as the annual Fiesta de los Penasquitos in Rancho Penasquitos both on May 1st.
