This weekend is a food lovers dream! Would you expect anything less from the city of divine culinary excellence? Didn’t think so. Slide into the weekend with empty bellies and leave with happy hearts because this weekend is one for the books.

Friday, August 9

National Root beer Float Day

In celebration of National Root Beer Float Day and Marriott International’s longstanding partnership with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, The Sheraton Carlsbad Resort and Spa invites locals and guests to partake in a sweet fundraiser on Friday, August 9 from 2 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Food Truck Fridays at Balboa Park

Kick off your summer weekends in style every Friday evening at Balboa Park’s hottest after-hours event from 4:00 -8:30 pm. Visitors of all ages can enjoy live entertainment and activities for kids while eating gourmet dishes from a rotating selection of more than a dozen popular food trucks parked on the Plaza de Panama and El Prado walkway. Throughout the summer, Food Truck Fridays will present different musical performers or DJs each night in the Plaza de Panama.

Red NOT Chili Peppers

After the Last Race at the Seaside Stage at Del Mar Racetrack, catch The Red NOT Chili Peppers, a touring Red Hot Chili Peppers tribute band. The 18+ concert is free with paid admission to the track. f you arrive after the last race just for the concert, tickets cost $30.

Cruisin’ Grand

Cruisin’ Grand is Escondido’s long-running car show taking place in Downtown Escondido (from Orange to Ivy streets, every Friday night through September). The free event features a parade of vintage American cars and live music from 5-9 pm.

Tiki Fridays

Start your weekend off in vacation mode at George’s at the Cove Ocean Terrace for Tiki Fridays. Enjoy their regular happy hour choices as well as delicious and refreshing Tiki cocktail blends. Enjoy this tropical drink right in your backyard!  

Oceanside International Film Festival

Come down to Sunshine Brooks Theatre and witness some of the best films of 2019, some of which, have been nominated for an Oscar. Every year, the festival elevates the talent, and this year surely won’t disappoint you. Come join the magic at North County’s longest-running film festival. Saturday, August 10

ArtWalk @ Liberty Station 

The event will return to Ingram Plaza for its 14th year of “Connecting Creative Communities” on Saturday, August 10 and Sunday, August 11 in the Arts District at Liberty Station. The fine arts festival brings visual arts, music and interactive art experiences to the historic San Diego community all weekend long. Thousands can peruse through the garden browsing artwork and enjoying food, wine and beer, and live entertainment at the two-day, free event.

34th Annual Philippine Cultural Arts Festival

This community festival in Balboa Park will take place both Saturday and Sunday, celebrating Filipino culture through entertainment, dance, art, and food. The event is free; local vendors will sell traditional Filipino goodies like adobo, lumpia, pancit, and Halo-Halo.

Imperial Beach Surf Dog Competition

Come out to the cutest surfing contest in the city at Imperial Beach Pier Plaza beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday morning. Cheer on all of the cute pups as they try to tackle the art of surfing while supporting the San Diego Humane Society.

Dip Day Club With Trey Songz

The Sycuan Casino Resort continues its Las Vegas-style series of 21+ monthly summer pool parties at its swanky new Retreat Pool & Cabanas, an outdoor venue boasting two pools, a lazy river, a swim-up cocktail bar, oversized daybeds, and high-end cabanas. The Day Dip Club party this Saturday will feature entertainment by Trey Songz from 12 – 6 pm.

Gourmet Food Truck Festival

The 10th Annual Gourmet Food Truck Festival rolls into the Del Mar Racetrack Saturday featuring dozens of Southern California-based food trucks serving their best bites. Entry to the Food Truck Festival is free with paid admission to the track ($6 for Stretch Run) but bring money to buy snacks. This year, the food vendors will be dishing out everything from Korean-inspired eats and Peruvian plates, to lobster rolls, kebabs, and tacos.

Wiz Khalifa: ‘The Decent Exposure’ Tour

Hit-making rapper Wiz Khalifa brings “The Decent Exposure” Tour to the Chula Vista venue Saturday night at 6 Pm at the North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre. In addition to Khalifa, the lineup includes French Montana, Moneybagg Yo, Chevy Woods and DJ Drama. Tickets start at $29.

Art in the Village

Spend your lovely Sunday morning strolling around Carlsbad Village as you insert yourself into the Art in the Village festivities. Enjoy local artistry and beautiful jewelry, pottery and furniture.. Stop by between 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

San Diego Dim Sum Tour

We’re calling all “foodies” to the San Diego Dim Sum Tour at Jasmine Seafood Restaurant starting at 10 a.m. Learn about the history of the various teas, delicious eats while indulging in rice crepes, egg tarts, BBQ pork, and more!

Cork & Canvas at the Prado

The Prado restaurant in the heart of Balboa Park hosts the Cohn Restaurant Group’s 5th annual “Cork & Canvas,” from 12 – 3 pm. This wine pairing and art show will feature the works of the company’s in-house artists. Tickets cost $35 per person.

San Diego Padres vs. Colorado Rockies

The Padres wrap up their series at home against the Rockies with some Sunday afternoon baseball. Sunday is Military Appreciation Day at Petco Park, too, where the teams and fans will salute U.S. military families for their daily sacrifices. Tickets to the fourth and final game of this series start at $17. The game begins at 12:40 pm
