With The Kentucky Derby on Saturday, and Cinco de Mayo on Sunday, this weekend is shaping up to be packed with delicious eats, tasty cocktails, and some time well spent in the San Diego sun. To balance the taco feast and julep chugging, there are also some great morning runs on the books that help out a good cause – talk about two birds, eh? Friday, May 3rd

Cinco de Mayo in Old Town

Historic Old Town is back to spice up your weekend at the 36th annual Fiesta Old Town Cinco de Mayo! Taking place all weekend long, this FREE celebration attracts over 100,000 people over the course of three days with its bustling mercado, non-stop music and live entertainment on the Café Coyote stage, lucha libre wrestling matches at the Lucha Cantina Ring, over 75 authentic food and craft vendor, the iconic Lowrider Lane and more. Fiesta is sure to be muy caliente as it transforms the historic Old Town area into the largest Cinco de Mayo celebration on the West Coast.

April in Bloom

You don’t need to drive far to see the flower bloom that is happening all over Southern California. Come down to the Forum Shopping Center in Carlsbad to experience a butterfly encounter and strike a pose with your favorite flowers.

Drives for Rides

The North Park Observatory is hosting a sophisticated soiree starting at 7:00 pm. Party like Gatsby presents the “Spectacle Extraordinaire”. Saturday, May 4th

Tacos, Tequila & Beer Festival

Head to NTC at Liberty Station for tequila, craft beer, and tacos from Southern California’s favorite taco vendors. There will also be 2 stages featuring live bands and djs, and a mechanical bull. The festival is happening from 1 – 5 p.m., tickets start at $30.

Cinco De Mayo Trail Run

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo a different way, with a 10k, 5k, or 1k at Lake Poway Recreation area at 6:30 a.m. Enjoy the day with family and friends while supporting disadvantaged students through San Diego’s Best Kept Dirty Little Secret. Tickets start at $10.

Military Appreciation Month

To recognize local servicemen and women throughout the San Diego community, both Carlsbad and Las Americas Premium Outlets are celebrating Military Appreciation Month in May with special giveaways and discounts. From 12-6pm, guests to the center with a valid military ID can enter to win a $100 gift card every hour. Girls on the Run Spring 5k

Miracle Babies 11th Annual Superhero 5K
