Rady Children’s Hospital Auxiliary Announces Second Annual beWELL Fitness Fair

By  |

The La Jolla and Carmel Valley units of the Rady Children’s Hospital will be hosting their second annual beWELL Fitness Fair, which will be taking place at the La Jolla High School Stadium on September 29. This fun family-friendly event will feature a fundraiser with activities like fitness boot camp, yoga classes, live entertainment, and raffle drawings for all attendees.

“The beWELL Fitness Fair is an important community event, offering families a fun way to get involved in fitness while supporting a critical health need for so many San Diego families,” said Mary Stopler, co-chair of Rady Children’s Hospital Auxiliary La Jolla unit. “We want to help end the stigma around mental health care so that every child facing a crisis is able to receive the care they need.”

Roughly one in five children in the U.S. will experience a behavioral health disorder sometime in their adolescence. That equates to nearly 190,000 children in San Diego, but less than 10% of them will receive the proper care medical treatment they need and deserve.

The event will begin with opening announcements from the beWELL team, along with special guests Sheri Matthews Kimel, a former Lululemon ambassador, wellness consultant, and activist. Guests can then participate in the boot camp with Coach Tee at 8:30 AM, closely followed by another speaker and a yoga class with Pam Hendricks at 9:30 AM.

The La Jolla YMCA will be on site, offering a Kid’s Corner program which includes supervised child care, a fun obstacle course, and games, so parents can freely participate in the event. The Kids Corner will be free for all attendees.

The festival will be open to all children and adults. Adult admission will be $20 per adult ticket and $10 for children ages 13-18. Children under 12 are free. Groups of 10 or more adults can enjoy 10% off admission prices. VIP tickets will also be available for $100, which include a free swag bag and access to the VIP snack bar.

All proceeds for the event will be going towards the new Copley Psychiatric Emergency Department and affiliate programs at Rady Children’s Hospital. This new facility will be the first of its kind in the region, dedicated to providing aid to children experiencing a mental or behavioral health crisis. Copley Psychiatric Emergency Department is scheduled to open in 2020.
