Support Local Talent at Open Mic Nights

By  |

Supporting local talent is a great way to stay connected to community and it’s one way to create deeper roots in a city you love. Luckily, San Diego is a big city that’s filled with local talent and we have so many venues and opportunities to go support. Putting yourself out there on a stage with an audience full of strangers is never easy, but it always makes it so much better when you know the people watching and listening are supportive and excited. If you want to be part of a great local music scene (whether you take the stage or support in the audience), you can catch open these mic nights throughout San Diego:

Monday nights, Lestat’s West has an open mic event hosted by Robbie Robertson. To participate, artists must sign up at 6:30pm, then time slots will be chosen by lottery. Each performer is allowed up to 10 minutes of stage time. Enjoy a cup of coffee or a some scrumptious pastries while you check out the music scene. Lestat’s is a great place to make friends— the baristas and patrons alike are always welcoming and kind. If you take the stage here, you feel like you’re in the presence of friends.

You can catch a lot of great musicians on Tuesday’s at Rebecca’s Coffee House in South Park. Sign up starts at 6:30pm, and artists take the stage shortly after. People come from near and far to Rebecca’s on Tuesdays to catch some good tunes and graze on some of the tasty scones. There’s a lot of other yummy house made treats to enjoy while you have a seat on one of the comfy couches and enjoy the show.

On Wednesdays at Winston’s in OB, you can always find some talented artists sharing their music. All genres are welcome, there’s no cover charge, and Winston’s is a fun local that’s always full of color. The locals in Ocean Beach love Winston’s because it’s a perfect blend of dive-y and beachy. Stop by and join the crowd to see what it’s all about!

Thursdays at Kaffee Meister in Santee you can catch a colorful open mic from 6:30-9:30pm. If you want to take the stage, you can sign-up between 6:00pm and 6:15pm for a 15 minute time time slot. This cozy coffee shop is a local, family owned business that is beloved by the community. Stop by and enjoy the coffee and live music— we bet the baristas will make you feel like a neighbor dropping in for coffee.
