Justin Bieber: New Collaboration, ‘Friends’

By  |

Even though Justin Bieber just recently cancelled his ‘Purpose’ tour, it hasn’t stopped him from releasing new pop music. On Thursday Aug. 17, the 23-year-old pop sensation released a new single, ‘Friends,’ after teasing his fans on twitter. ‘Friends’ is a collaboration with BloodPop (a.k.a Michael Tucker), and it did not disappoint.

‘Friends,’ a song that will instantly make you want to dance and sing along to, marks a reunion of familiar names who Bieber has worked with before. Fans of Bieber’s hit, “Sorry,” will notice that this song is co-produced by BloodPop and Skrillex. Also, co-writer Julia Michaels returned for this new dance driven song.

‘Friends’ is clearly a catchy tune about a break-up with lyrics like, “No, we didn’t end this so good / But you know we had something so good,” and “So I’m wondering, can we still be friends? / Can we still be friends? / Doesn’t have to end / And if it ends, can we be friends?” Catchy and relatable, we approve.

This single is the first Bieber has released since his Purpose album track, ‘Company.’ Earlier this year, he collaborated with David Guetta for the track, “2U,” and Luis Fonsi for the hit song ‘Despacito.” Additionally, Bieber was featured in DJ Khaled’s single, “I’m the One.”

After Bieber angered many of his fans due to the cancellation of his ‘Purpose’ tour, hopefully this song will provide him the redemption he has been seeking for. After he cancelled the tour, he wrote an emotional post stating that he needed to take a break from touring in order to stay “sustainable.”

Will his fans stay loyal and be receptive of his new song, ‘Friends,’ after he cancelled his tour? Only time will tell. Stay tuned with SD Entertainer.
