For San Diego natives, especially those in the coastal communities, vacation rentals have long been a part of life. Every year during the summer, it seems like half the population of places like Mission Beach swarm from Vegas, Arizona, or other parts of California, to San Diego. What has changed though, is the flooding of the vacation rental market with online booking platforms. Sites like Airbnb and VRBO have made it easier than ever for people worldwide to find a dream rental in San Diego. On top of that, it is also much more convenient for homeowners to post their properties.

Naturally, it’s no wonder San Diego is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after destinations for luxury vacation homes. Pairing with AllTheRooms, the world’s first vacation rental search engine, we’ve found a list of the most beautiful and popular oceanfront vacation rentals in the city.

Endless Summer in Pacific Beach

This home, literally called “Endless Summer”, is an easy inclusion as it flawlessly incorporates elements from the beach, luxury, and fun. Located on the bayside promenade of Pacific Beach, the home is so close to the calm waters of the bay, someone with a good arm could throw a ball from the house to a friend wading in the sea. For families, this home is a no-brainer. Guests are given access to endless entertainment with foosball and ping-pong tables inside, while outside there is corn hole, bikes, a kayak, and boogie boards that can be used in the bigger waves on the ocean side of Pacific Beach.

Villa Bermuda Beach

Villa Bermuda Beach has been able to achieve the rare luxurious feel that is comfortable and stunning, without feeling the least bit gaudy. Tastefully decorated with wood features throughout the house, it is a modern, high-class take on the beach bungalow. Perhaps the biggest draw though is the outdoor living area that features a massive heated Jacuzzi, outdoor shower, and fire pit. Anyone who is able to pry themselves away from the views of the Sunset Cliffs is only a 10-minute walk from the kitsch and charm of Ocean Beach.

Beachfront Retreat

Is there anything better than a rooftop hot tub? No, probably not. But the one belonging to this beachfront mansion has the added bonus of being the best place to watch the sunset over the Pacific Ocean. The property also has a large ground floor patio with a barbeque, bar, and fire pit, so renters really have no need to spend much time indoors during their beach vacation – although those who want to are met with a spectacular interior. All three floors have living rooms, two with fireplaces, and the house can sleep as many as 16 people. With nine bathrooms and three full kitchens, this place will never feel crowded.

Sunset Pointe Home La Jolla

While many people most likely associate San Diego beachfront vacation rentals as the line of homes along the various strands and boardwalks of crowded beaches, Sunset Pointe does things a bit differently. That’s because this La Jolla home is more isolated and away from the hustle and bustle; plus, with its spot on the cliffs, it provides a bit more of an aerial view of the ocean. Speaking of that view, the property’s position in La Jolla means guests can not only enjoy the sea view but also have an uninterrupted view down the coast from Pacific Beach to Point Loma. Meanwhile, inside is ornately decorated. One of the most distinguishing features is the glass-bottom sunning patio off of the master suite. Outside, the home has a hot tub and lap pool (which also has a waterfall because why not?), and is a quick walk to local surf breaks.

Magnificent Home and Views

Our final pick in La Jolla is a showstopper. Accommodating up to 20 people comfortably in the home’s 5,000 square feet, the house’s high price tag could become reasonable with the right group. Those who decide to go for it will be rewarded with one of the best vacation rental experiences around. Everything about the home is drawn towards the ocean views. The interior of the house is incredibly well lit as ginormous floor-to-ceiling windows keep the Pacific always in view. At the same time, the backyard, which backs up to the cliff, has tons of outdoor living room with couches, lounges, a dining table, and a fire pit. This home also easily has the biggest pool on this list and is accompanied by a hot tub. A beer (or juice) in-hand while in the pool watching the sunset is the type of getaway boasted by San Diego’s fabulous oceanfront vacation rentals.
