Summer is coming to an end and it’s time to start kicking into school/work mode. For some, more responsibilities can cause tension and stress. Luckily, we’ve come up with some tips to help manage stress and make a smooth transition into fall.

Meditating and yoga
These peaceful exercises can help quiet your mind and relax your body. Being at peace with mind and body is a big part of feeling relaxed and reducing stress.

Exercising
Exercising produces endorphins which are natural soothing hormones that reduce stress. Even walking for 30 minutes a day can change body chemistry. Perhaps on your lunch break, just take a walk around and enjoy the beauty of San Diego.  Weight loss is an added benefit.

Spa time
No one can deny that a trip to the spa for a massage, manicure, or pedicure can be relaxing. Even for those gentlemen out there, indulge and try a mani-pedi. You’ll be surprised how good you feel afterward.

Manage your diet
Looking out for unnecessary carbs, sugar, caffeine and alcohol will help put your body back in a healthy balance. Taking a midterm or sitting through a meeting hung-over and jacked up on caffeine is no way to go! I know that the nightlife in San Diego has its fill of great bars and restaurants to visit but for stress management, enjoy these activities in moderation.

Vitamins and minerals
Taking vitamins and supplements can help strengthen your nervous system. Calcium and vitamin C are two important ones for stress management.

Use herbs
Ginseng has been shown to support adrenal function and enhance resistance to stress. Other herbs, like Valerian has been known to help treat insomnia by helping you fall asleep faster and increasing deep sleep.  Drinking herbal tea can also help you relax.

Music
The right music can actually lower your blood pressure, relax your body and calm your mind. Weather you’re listening to heavy metal, country or reggae, music relieves tension and stress. Living in San Diego, we can enjoy the benefit of a great local music scene. So get out there and enjoy!
