Sip & Swim: Pool Parties at The Lafayette

By  |

If you haven’t taken a dip at The Lafayette Hotel’s pool this summer, you need to. Cold drinks served poolside with a swanky-meets-historic-Hollywood vibe to the venue – it’s all the rage. Head into this North Park classic spot and grab either one of the cabanas or a table in the shade. No one likes a sunburn. Put your token ‘pool bag’ down and cruise to the bar, Hope 46. A friendly bar staff shakes and stirs up some damn good cocktails.

For the fiery soul, try the El Diablo. My personal favorite. Served with Casamigos reposado tequila, crème de cassis, fresh lime and Cock’n Bull ginger beer. It’ll put you in the mood. Or for something a little less zippy, order the Basil Daisy, made with Tito’s vodka, Aperol, raw sugar, lemon and fresh basil. Drinks range from $12 – $14 and they also serve wine and beer.

Catch a little buzz and make a splash with your pals. If you don’t have any pals, there are plenty of people there to meet. Maybe a little too many people for my liking, but that’s the beauty of arriving early – so you can snag a spot and escape the crowd when needed.

Mark your calendar for this Sunday, August 11th. Why? They have a Sharka-pool-ooza featuring Lady Dottie and the Diamonds – a rock and soul blues band. Kicking off at noon, guests can grab a pass for $30, which includes entrance and a featured drink. Party stops at 5 p.m., but that doesn’t mean you have to. After you towel off, grab some grub and more booze back at Hope 46. I mean, you’re already there so why not? Lafayette is located at 2223 El Cajon Blvd. and more info about this weekend’s pool party can be found via their Facebook page.
