Summer Concerts to Expand Your Horizons
There are some great concerts coming to San Diego, and we don’t mean rock, pop, soul or country. It time to expand your musical horizons, get fancy and enjoy the long summer nights with great classical and jazz music. Both the Spreckels Organ Pavilion and The Grand Del Mar will be hosting great concerts this summer.
Spreckels Organ Pavilion’s International Summer Organ Festival 2012
Back in 1915, during the Panama-California Exposition, John Spreckels presented to the people of San Diego the one-of-a-kind concert outdoor pipe organ that can still be seen today at Balboa Park. The organ is capable of playing the full range of musical masterworks and can be heard from anywhere within three miles of the pavilion. According to the Spreckels Organ Society, concerts on the Spreckels organ attract over 100,000 visitors a year. Why not be one of them?
Now in its 25th year, the Summer International Organ Festival is a great opportunity to hear a piece of history at one of the 10 free concerts in Balboa Park. The first event features Civic Organist Emeritus Robert Plimpton on June 25 at 7:15 p.m. Concerts run from June 25 through August 27. Aside from the first concert, all concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. and all free to attend. There are snacks, beverages and souvenirs available.
