Lady Gaga’s highly anticipated “Telephone” music video featuring Beyonce Knowles debuted last week on March 11th.

The video was supposed to come out February, but Lady Gaga wanted it to be “perfect”, according to Ace showbiz, so the premiere was pushed back a month as the video awaited in the editing room.

“Telephone” is the second single taken from Lady Gaga’s latest album The Fame Monster.Yesterday, March 15, Billboard announced that “Telephone” reached number one on the Pop chart, becoming Gaga’s 6th consecutive number one on the chart. She is the only artist in history to do this.

The video is directed by Jonas Akerlund, a Swedish film and music video director best known for his stylish music videos that mock forms of movie trailers and short films. He is famous for his video for Madonna’s “Ray of Light,” which won a Grammy for Best Music Video. The “Telephone” music video is dubbed by Haus of GaGa—Lady Gaga’s creative team that collaborates with her on her clothing, stage sets, and sounds—as a “masterpiece.”

The nine and a half minute long music video attracted over 18 million viewers, creating a buzz online when it first debuted on YouTube. Many were surprised by Gaga’s video; but then again, considering it is Lady Gaga, many weren’t that surprised.

In the beginning of the video, Gaga is practically stripped naked in a prison cell before she leaps onto the bars, exposing herself in a way that references a rumor about her genitalia. The video also features a dash of Tarantino, with Kill Bill’s “Pussy Wagon” as Gaga and Beyonce’s method of transportation.

According to, MTV had decided to ban the video due to its sexual content. However, MTV’s manager of programming denies this network ban.

It seems that bloggers—who remain divided over the controversial video—either love it or hate it. Some describe the video as edgy, sexy, and refreshing, while others dislike the video because they think it’s just plain weird.

“Telephone” also includes several moments of seemigly random product placements. Virgin Mobile cell phones, dating site, Wonder Bread and others make an appearance in this unpredictable music video.

Whether you love it or hate it, the door is open for a sequel to “Telephone.” When asked about the “To Be Continued” creating the possibility for a sequel, Director Jonas Akerlund told MTV, “We’re very spontaneous. We’ll see.”

Do your research properly, she is not the only artist in history to get 6 consecutive number one… whitney houston is the first and she eventually had seven

Worst artist of the century. Half of the music video wasn’t even music, just terrible acting and softcore porn. It was a classic attention whore gag and people fell for it. Hell, she french kissed a lesbian while the other lesbian grabbed her crotch. Murder by poision, ass slapping, prison fights, unsynchronized dancing in underwear, looking in the camera, slutty outfits, not to mention terrible singing, awkward music shakes (the wierd buzzing). The lyrics make no sense as well. This is also just more corporate manipulation. Plenty of Fish and Wonder Bread probably payed big bucks for Gaga to sell herself out.

This video should get a razzle for being one of the absolute worst music videos in the history of media. A complete flop. Her name will most likely be disgraced forever.

    Good riddance too.

Lady Gaga can sing. Anyone who has a trained ear can tell that. If you haven’t heard each and every one of her amazing songs, give them a try. You might like them, even love them.

Lady Gaga is an artist, and artists perform what they choose to express themselves. Do you think EVERYONE has been a fan of EVERY SINGER over the years? No. It’s not like somebody is making you listen to her or watch her. So what if she’s everywhere? That must mean she’s on to something.

& as for the product placement, if you do your research you will see that some of it was paid for, some of it was free, completely thought up by Gaga herself. The coke can in her hair? A tribute to her mother & the way she used to curl her hair.

That is true that she is not the only artist to get six number ones but I think she is the only one to have all six come from a debut album. While “Telephone” is not my favorite Lady Gaga video, I like “Bad Romance” more, it is still a very unique and exciting video and even if you don’t like it, it’s no reason to call her the worst artist of the century. The fact that people are talking about her, her tour was completely sold out and that she has sold over 10 million copies of her debut album worldwide clearly prove otherwise. I have seen her live twice and had the opportunity to meet her and I can tell you that she is a genius artist and business woman. Love her or hate her she’s here to stay!

I believe everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I personally love Lady Gaga, and if certain people don’t that’s their decision . Another thing, for those of you who do not like her music, don’t watch her videos or listen to her songs if you find them so awful.

    March 16, 2010 at 11:55 pm

The only reason Gaga is famous is cos her songs have catchy beats, and she’s either wearing something beyond wierd or posing half naked infront of the camera. That’s the only reason she gets attention.

She can’t even sing. Her voice is digitalised after it’s been recorded.

To the person who said she can’t sing because her voice has digital touch-ups….
Obviously you haven’t seen her acoustic performances where she is singing with and without music.
It’s one thing to say you don’t like her music….everyone is entitled to their opinion.
But to say she can’t sing….that only makes you look ridiculous and childish. And perhaps even jealous?

Electrifying. Brilliant. First time I saw a lady Gaga video was two weeks ago. I’m not a pop music fan , but I’m a big fan of modern dance–and I see some similarities to some of my favorite modern dance troupes. Like the troupe Momix, with their viscerally evocative and jarring contortions, visuals, and costumes (ranging from minimal to over the top). Momix is considered refined and elegant–people like me pay to go sit quietly in theaters to watch them–but Lady Gaga to me is the other side of the same coin. Rough, tough, and often hilarious–but no less mesmerizing. Cirque du Soleil may be a more recognizable mainstream comparison. For those of you who like Lady Gaga but really haven’t seen modern dance, check out the latest Momix promo video:

Gaga rocks… If you are interested in generic, manufactured & predictable pop stars please go to disney or go idolize Britney Spears etc.
Gaga pushes boundaries of our concept of what a pop star should be. If she leaves you feeling uneasy, this is not a bad thing. We are lucky to continually be confronted by a singer who doesn’t care about what others think & who’s person life isn’t waterhole fodder.

Sigh of relief for Gaga! Refreshing, controversial, talented & manic..
    LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!!!

Keep the madness going for all the monsters out there…

Silly EWHREHG,TUG, unless you’re listening to records or cassettes EVERYONES voice is digitized.

I think what you mean is that they used auto-tune. If so, then it’s the most subtle use ever. Listen to Tik-Tok by K$sha to hear an extreme example of pitch correction and then tell me truthfully that Lady Gaga’s singing has the same artifacts in it.

gaga is awesome. i love her songs. and yea, this video didnt really make sense, i think it might of had something to do with the fact that everyone sez she had a dick (which i dont thinks true, just some jelous fans making shit up) even if she DID have a dick, itz none of our buisness. all we really should care about is that she makes AWESOME music for us, not worry about her personal life cuz you guyz dont got nothing better to do than criticize her life and what she does! if you dont like her then why are you even wasting time posting a comment about this video??? cuz you gotz nothing better 2 do! just get a life and STFU already!!

haha… my friend took a philosophy class with her when she was still at NYU. met her at Arleen’s Grocery in the Village only 3 years ago. it was just her jamming out on a keyboard to some of the songs on her album. she definitely has style (though i think much of it is to hide her face…she’s a little rough but who would notice!) crazy how fast that all happened!

I love Gaga’s music, and I thoroughly enjoy her music videos, and same goes for this one. What I felt was a little over the top was the pointless near-nudity and extremely revealing outfits. Yeah, we’re all adults here and we’ve seen it before, and sure, she’s making a social commentary, but nonetheless, there is no reason for its placement in this video other than for easy attention grabbing. Plenty of “social commentaries” have been made without sex as a cheap selling point. I find it concerning that even though some consider her to be “breaking boundaries”, but what is so new and bold about using sex to attract an audience? This music video would have been just as entertaining if it weren’t for the ridiculously revealing outfits and blatant sexuality.

The styling and creativity in the video is great BUT people go to jail for doing horrible & cruel things to people and it should not be glorified!

oh my god….what a disgrace. The song was beautiful…what every single girl sometimes feels like. Amazing lyrics once I finally choose to hear them. Amazing I tell ya. But wtf…of course everyones said their opinion and you like it or you dont. But I am actually going out of my way just to make this statement because I hope that woman falls on her face bankrupt after that shit. Thank god I don’t let my kids watch much tv but I always imagine what if they saw that. And how the hell did that woman come up with that non f****n sense. Completely bogus video. Beyonce???? why would you put yourself to that level. I guess maybe I dont see the hidden message, me and a million others then. But seriously I can go on and on in discriminating that. How dispicable. That woman should be embarrassed and trust me I will do my part in my small world to become a hater of Lady GaGa. Who Cares anyway!
