Wave House in Mission Beach adds music venue – Get ready to ride the Sound Wave

There is a new addition to San Diego’s music scene coming next month. Mission Beach’s Wave House has taken over the site formerly known as Canes Bar and Grill to turn it into Sound Wave, a new indoor music venue. The opening show is planned for April 9 and will feature Wailing Souls, a Jamaican reggae group.

Sound Wave will hold 700 concertgoers and already has five acts planned for April. The venue plans to have shows Wednesdays through Saturdays. The 22,000 square foot two story building will also host DJs, local shows, art exhibitions and private events year round.

New Boyz in San Diego Thursday

The New Boyz are performing live this Thursday, March 4th at Deco’s Nightclub in the Gaslamp District of Downtown San Diego. The duo’s hit song “You’re A Jerk” has catapulted the group into stardom. Certainly a show you don’t want to miss you can buy tickets online as the event will likely sell out.

nb 8x10Currently you can hear their follow up single “Tie me Down” featuring Ray J spinning on all the local stations. The groups debut album Skinnie Jeans and A Mic brings a colorful style into the hip hop atmosphere. But what is a “jerk?”

Plaid scarfs, skinnies (skinny jeans) and colorful clothing which mark the jerk movement are becoming increasingly popular nationally. People of all ages and backgrounds are getting into the addicting beats and catchy lyrics that are the New Boyz.

The duo Ben J and Legacy met as freshman in high school in Los Angeles. Originally part of a larger collective rap group the two split off to create their solo careers. After Legacy switched to a different high school the duo decided to combine forces.

Their fashion sense and hit song “You’re A Jerk”, which was called “pretty much perfect” by the New York Times have given them a unique identity. Read more

So I’m watching the Grammys and noticing that Ringo, while presenting, apparently hasn’t been asked to perform. Even with all the well-produced segments and talent, this strikes me as “off.” I mean, a Beatle is in the house and no one invites him to do “It Don’t Come Easy, ” perhaps with Lifetime Achievement honoree Honeyboy Edwards adding some country blues grit? Hmmm…
