Last Man Standing – Controversial Cancellation

Tim Allen’s ‘Last Man Standing’ has been cancelled for months now, but ABC finally put an end to the rumors as to why. ABC announced that the cancellation had nothing to do with Tim Allen’s conservative political views in the liberal leaning Hollywood world.

The sitcom, ‘Last Man Standing,’ stars Tim Allen, who is a conservative. It echoed 64-year old Allen’s views as a conservative (he attended President Trump’s inauguration and has been outspoken on several issues). Allen and fans of the show were torn up when they found out about the show’s cancellation.

‘Last Man Standing’ had nearly 8.1 million viewers each week, so many felt that the cancellation had to do with the controversial content in the show. When Allen found out, he even tweeted that he was “blindsided” and “stunned” by ABC’s decision.

Furthermore, a petition came out by Change.org, with the claim that the show was cancelled considering it was the only entertainment program in Hollywood that wasn’t liberal. This petition gained over 300,000 signatures.

Despite the claims and controversy, ABC’s president, Channing Dungey put an end to the rumors. He told the Television Critics Association press tour in Los Angeles yesterday that, “Politics had absolutely nothing to do with it. We have actors on our shows who have all sorts of political views. Tim Allen is a valuable part of the Disney family and has been for a very long time.”

Even though Dungey also called ‘Last Man Standing’ a “quality show,” she admitted that there wasn’t enough room for a seventh season. Dungey also spoke about other shows on ABC that are conservative leaning shows, such as, the upcoming “Roseanne.” Roseanne is another Trump supporter who has no problem discussing her views with the public.
