Odell Beckham Jr. Takes Cover of Madden

By  |

Odell Beckham Jr., the New York Giants’ wide receiver who cemented his name in sports history for having one of the greatest catches of all time, was just announced as the face of the 2016 Madden NFL video game.

Odell Beckham Jr. played wide receiver for LSU in college, and was drafted into the NFL in 2014 by the New York Giants. Since taking the starting role for New York, he has broken over 34 NFL records and 24 Giants franchise records. He was the first Giants rookie in 13 years to make the all star team.

Taking the coveted spot on the cover of Madden is something every NFL player dreams of. Not only does it represent your skill and hard work, but you also represent a leader on the field, and a personality in the locker room. It isn’t just the best player in the league who gets the cover; you have to have a certain-something that sets you apart from the rest.

What separates Beckham from the other star players in the NFL is his breakout stardom as the lead wide receiver for the New York Giants and his catch against the Dallas Cowboys in his rookie season. Surrounded by defenders, Beckham landed a one handed catch, fully extended, in the end zone.

Other notable NFL stars who have made the cover of Madden include Brett Favre, Marshawn Lynch, and Drew Brees. Only three players in the game were rated with the coveted 99 rating this year. The three include JJ Watt of the Houston Texans, Rob Gronkowski of the New England Patriots, and Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers.
Madden has been the best selling sports video game of all time, selling over 100 million copies and expecting that number to rise with the release of Madden 2016.
