Little Caesars Joins the ‘Impossible Foods’ Club

By  |

Impossible Foods, the meatless meat company behind products like the Impossible Burger, will now be partnering with Little Caesars. The two will be bringing a new pizza to the market using sausage made from Impossible Foods meatless meat.

Called the Impossible Supreme Pizza, it will be tested in several states across the country before being rolled out to all Little Caesars locations. CNN Business reported that Little Caesars and Impossible Foods have been working on developing this sausage since October. Impossible Foods has never sold sausage before, instead focusing on its ground beef and burger offerings.

The popular pizza chain took notice when trends pointed towards traditional meat eaters swapping out meat for vegetarian alternatives. Referred to as “flexitarians,” they are not dead set on their diet choices when it comes to eating meat, but they are a bit more adventurous when it comes to the food they eat.

Ed Gleich, Little Caesars chief innovation officer, told CNN Business the pizza will appeal to its most “loyal, carnivorous, fans.” He added, “this is likely just the beginning of plant-based menu items from Little Caesars.” It is reported that Impossible Foods developed over 50 prototypes of the plant-based sausage for Little Caesars over the course of its development.

This is just another instance of Impossible Foods partnering with a big name food franchise. In April, it announced a partnership with Burger King, with its Impossible Burger becoming available at all franchised locations. Burger King joins White Castle and Qdoba in offering Impossible Foods meat to its customers.

Alternative plant-based foods are on the rise, with companies like Impossible Foods and Beyond Meat experiencing massive growth as the market develops a greater demand for such products. Plant-based meats have the potential to make a profound impact on the global food system, contributing to a reduction in animal cruelty, antibiotic resistance, and reducing climate change.
