By  |

Today Deputy Medical Examiner Dr. Craig Nelson of the San Diego the Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an examination that confirmed the cause and manner of death in the case of Tiaina Baul Seau Jr. (Junior Seau).

They have said, “The 43-year-old Oceanside resident died in his home in the 600 block South The Strand of a self-inflicted gunshot wound of the chest. The manner of death has been classified as suicide.”

They are also reporting that they are awaiting the family’s decision regarding study of the brain for repetitive injury by researchers.

Seau was discovered dead in his home Wednesday morning at about 9:35 a.m. and we broke the story soon after. Read the story here.

Since yesterday, a combination of support and criticism has come to Seau and his family. The news of his death was a shock to us all. While some people have been expressing outrage, more can be said about the huge outpouring of support for the Seau family. A shrine-of-sorts has been accumulating outside his Oceanside home as well as outside his restaurant in Mission Valley. There is no word yet of a time frame for memorial services.

San Diego resident for over 10 years, I now call this beautiful city home. Originally from the Bay Area, I'm a California girl at heart. I love the outdoors, fitness, food, and a good craft beer (from San Diego of course).
