We all could use a quick getaway from our everyday lives. More often than not, disappearing off to a private getaway is not an option. So, it’s nice to have places nearby to run away to for a couple of hours. Luckily for us San Diegan’s, we have Julian, California.

Take a step back in time for a few hours because Julian will bring everyone back to a simpler time in life. Located in the beautiful Cuyamaca Mountains, Julian is just one hour east of San Diego.

The drive is breathtaking to say the least and the road passes many different farms, pumpkin patches, as well as apple and honey stands. The journey is definitely a site to see for city folk. And if you time your trip correctly, Julian will greet you with the much needed changing leaves of Fall and the smell of warm homemade apple pie; two things that San Diego lacks.

Julian has over 20 different local restaurants, most of which serve fresh apple pie, and shops that you can chose from. The quaint town even provides gluten free and vegan options for all visitors.

Julian restaurants and shops all have the kind of hospitality you may not see in the hustle and bustle of San Diego. Julian sticks to its roots in treating all visitors like they are family and taking technology away for a while. With picturesque second-hand book stores, and beautiful antique shops, many people head to Julian to simply stroll through the town. There is plenty of shopping, dining, and walking to keep visitors busy all day long.

The only thing downside of Julian is that it becomes very busy during the fall. With San Diego’s lack of the season all together, many make weekend getaways to get a taste of the mountains. It is extremely special to have a town this close to San Diego that is so quiet and simple, yet so exciting.

Check out Julian’s website to find when the best events are happening, and take a road trip to the past next time you need a quick getaway.
