The 2013 USBG Mixing Star Competition in San Diego
The United States Bartenders’ Guild, along with Disaronno, are holding the regional finals of the 2013 Mixing Star Competition. The 2013 USBG Mixing Star Competition, sponsored by DISARONNO® liqueur, is a national search for the next big name in bartending. Competitors from six cities throughout the U.S. will be challenged to create a movie-inspired cocktail. The final winner, named the new USBG Mixing Star, will win a trip to the 70th Annual Venice International Film Festival showcasing his or her DISARONNO signature cocktail for the stars.
The 2013 Regional Finals are being held in six cities: Boston, Chicago, New Orleans, Seattle, Austin and San Diego. 15 bartenders from each location will be chosen to “audition” their recipe during a regional casting in front of local fans and a jury made up of mixology gurus, including the USBG Local Chapter President. The top two bartenders from each city will then be invited to compete in the U.S. Finals in New Orleans – to take place on July 18, 2013 at Tales of the Cocktail.

The legend of amaretto liqueur, of which Disaronno is the world’s premiere brand, goes back to 1525. Bernardino Luini, a student of da Vinci, was painting a fresco of the Madonna of Miracles in the town of Saronno. A beautiful local innkeeper was his model and inspiration. She returned the honor of his painting her by giving him a delicate, fragrant liquor of amber color, amaretto.
