There’s something magical about watching a movie under the stars – be it the warm summer night air or getting comfy with blankets and popcorn, outdoor movies are a perfect activity to enjoy this season in San Diego. If you’re looking to catch an outdoor flick, check out these upcoming events to make sure you get yourself a good seat.

Rooftop Cinema Club

With its stunning views of the city from every angle imaginable, Rooftop Cinema Club is revolutionizing the movie-going experience in its unique and one-of-a-kind setting underneath and among the stars. This event is open to adults 18-and-over. Ticket prices start at just $17 per person for a single deck-chair underneath the moon and the stars.

Summer Movies in the Park

Summer Movies in the Park is a series of free outdoor movie events in park facilities around San Diego. Each event provides opportunities to gather as a community and offers residents free opportunities to enjoy themselves outdoors in the summer evenings. This is the perfect opportunity to relax and unwind after a long day with friends and family. Summer Movies in the Park offers a safe and unique area to catch a flick, so be sure to bring plenty of comfy blankets and chairs, and don’t forget the snacks! Liberty Station Movie Nights 

Join Liberty Station’s Stone Brewing every Tuesday for Liberty Station Movie Nights. Throughout the summer, Stone Brewing shows movies on a twelve-foot screen in their gorgeous garden. Bring along lawn chairs and blankets, grab yourself a beer and snacks, and settle in for a good movie. Stone Brewing will be offering a special movie night munchies, coffee and more. 

Movies on the Beach at Hotel del Coronado 

Is there anything better than cozying up and watching a movie on the big screen at the beach? Being such a unique experience, it doesn’t get much better when it comes to outdoor movies. Cuddle up around a private bonfire, get ready to roast s’ mores, and settle in for a family-friendly film under the stars. 

Movie Night in the Park (Park 101)

Get the fam out of the house and get to Park 101, an open-air dining establishment in Carlsbad, that hosts Movie Night in the Park every Wednesday evening. Arrive early and grab a bite to eat before the movie begins at dusk. Park 101 also has a kid’s menu, so the little ones can enjoy BBQ pork or chicken sliders, Chicken Dino Nuggets or noodles. Don’t forget to pack blankets or jackets in the car, as it gets chilly once the sun goes down.

Little Italy Summer Film Festival 

Come out one of San Diego’s coolest film festivals in beautiful Little Italy. Each Saturday, you’ll feel as if you’ve been transported to old Italy at night as you enjoy a wonderful catalog of Italian cinema classics with English subtitles. Feel free to bring your own picnic, lawn chairs, and blankets. Presented by the Little Italy Association and Cinema Little Italy, a $5 donation will be accepted as admittance fee. 

Movies & More by the Lake 

Head over to Santee Lakes for an unforgettable outdoor movie night along one of the most gorgeous areas in East County San Diego. At Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve, you can enjoy one of the biggest outdoor screens throughout San Diego. Bring your blankets and chairs, and don’t worry if you get hungry, the Snack Shack will be available to quell those munchies. 

Screen on the Green 

Cruise on out to Balboa Park and enjoy an outdoor movie night in the stunning Balboa Park. Grab a blanket, picnic basket, and cozy clothes and settle in for a carefully curated selection of critically acclaimed films chosen by The San Diego Museum of Art. Film screenings for Screen on the Green start at sundown (roughly 8:00 p.m.) on Thursdays in August at the Botanical Garden Lawn in Balboa Park. Sandwiches, snacks, and beverages (non-alcoholic) are available at Panama 66’s Grab & Go located in front of the restaurant until sundown.
