Bike to Work Day Friday
This year’s Bike to Work Day falls on Friday, May 20th and is a nationally recognized event that supports this environmentally-friendly transportation option.
This Friday more than 5,000 San Diegans will swap their car keys for bicycles on National Bike to Work Day.
According to SANDAG and the San Diego Area Transportation Partners’ promotional website when you register online, you are eligible to win many prizes including a Commuter-style bicycle – courtesy of Electra Bicycle Company, an Electric bicycle – courtesy of Green Cruiser, $500 eLiveLife.com gift certificates, REI camping gear (valued at $500), a Diablo Octane 10.5 flex driver – courtesy of Callaway Golf Company ($345 value), a Warbird X-treme stand bag – courtesy of Callaway Golf Company ($160 value), a 4-pack of tickets to San Diego Zoo, a 4-pack of tickets to Safari Park, a WH XG 35” putter, courtesy of Callaway Golf Company ($125 value), $100 eLiveLife.com gift certificates, a Pair of tickets to San Diego Zoo, a Pair of tickets to Safari Park, HX Diablo golf balls – courtesy of Callaway Golf Company, Chipotle gift cards and Clif Bar water bottles.
The San Diego event will offer 75 pit stops where bikers can pick up free t-shirts, water and snacks. Bear Naked will be one of the local sponsors represented, a La Jolla-based all-natural granola company.
Bear Naked will be sampling its 100% pure and natural granola treats to help keep riders’ bodies energized during their commutes. Their Pure & Natural Peak Energy Trail Mixes come in three flavors – Cranberry Almond, Pecan Apple Flax and Chocolate Cherry.
And if you ride to work on a regular basis, don’t forget to log your trips and track your savings. SANDAG and the San Diego Area Transportation Partners offer you a link called TripTracker that will help you measure the savings of your alternative commute, both to your pocketbook and to the environment. Every time you bike to work in May, log your trip in TripTracker, to be entered for chances to win prizes.
For those biking on Friday, May 20th, MTS and NCTD are offering FREE rides on all transit.
