nataliegelman1Alpinestars Clothing will provide free clothing and other fashion items for all who attend indie folk pop-rock artist Natalie Gelman’s performance commemorating the release of her new CD. This Friday, May 17th, at 8:30 p.m., the transplanted New Yorker will play at Lestat’s Coffee House.

Her EP, “Streetlamp Musician,” containing six new songs, will be released on Tuesday, May 14, 2013. The EP is produced by Charlie Midnight (James Brown) and Mark Needham (The Killers, he also played percussion on her EP); musicians on the album include Robin DiMaggio on drums, Patrick Warren on keyboards, Dave Lavita on guitar and Chris Chaney on bass; while Bob Glaub plays bass on the title track.

Having been compared to such acts as Sarah McLaughlin, Jewel, Sheryl Crow, and Joni Mitchell, she calls her sound a mix of folk/pop/rock with what she calls a “silver lining.”  She said, “There are a lot of heavy topics covered in my songs but always a bit of hope and vulnerable/childlike dreaming for some ideal.”

While growing up in Manhattan’s West Village, Gelman used a friend’s guitar to begin writing and performing songs on the subway platforms. Only 16 years old and unable to find gigs due to her age, her relentless playing in the street attracted the media to the point of giving her the break of touring in major cities, as her act and music has matured.

Some of the well-known venues she has played are:  LA (House of Blues and Hotel Café); Jacksonville, FL (Jacksonville Landing); Nashville (3rd and Lindsley), Philadelphia (Tin Angel) and New York City (Webster Hall, The Bitter End, and The Living Room).  She has also performed at a number of festivals including the Virgin Mobile Freefest, San Diego Comic Con, and the Sundance Film Festival.

The show will start at 8:30 pm. at Lestat’s Coffee House is located at 3343 Adams Ave. in San Diego. There is a cover charge of $10.00.
