The USS Midway Legacy Week
The USS Midway will be hosting a variety of events to honor our military.
On Saturday, May 26, the USS Midway will be having a Veterans Wreath Ceremony at 9:00 a.m.. This will be a free event and families are encouraged to come to show appreciation for those who have served our nation. For those who attend the wreath remembrance ceremony admission to the museum will be free.
The USS Midway will also be hosting two live concerts on Saturday and Sunday. Three Dog Night will perform Saturday’s concert and the concert will be held on the flight deck at 7:30 p.m.. Tickets are available on the Midway site and range from $25.00 to $74.50. The Navy Band Region Southwest 40 piece band will perform Sunday’s concert. The free concert will also take place on the flight deck and will go from 4:00 to 5:00.
Another part of Legacy Week will be that the museum will go through a transformation to create a Discovery Zone for kids. From May 26-29, the museum will change around their hanger bays to make things more fun and interactive. The Discovery Zone will include military equipment, restoration activities, and active military units. Also, if families check out the Wings Over Gillespie Booth they can try and win a chance to fly in a B-17 Bomber, a “Flight of a Life Time.” The winner will be announced on Memorial Day.
In addition, from Sunday to Monday, the Museum will have pilots up on deck for the public to talk to and question. The event will be on May 27 and 28 from 10:00 a.m. to 4 p.m.. Pilots will be station next to the aircraft they fly and will answer any questions about their experiences.
The last Memorial event the USS Midway will be hosting that week will be the Memorial Day Ceremony. Military heroes will be honored and remembered on the flight deck as the American Legion Post 492 hosts this special day. During the ceremony there will be guest –speakers to help us remember those heroes as well as performances.
Memorial Day Observances Day Ceremony
To honor those who have served our nation, the Veterans Museum & Memorial Center will be holding a special service event. The service will take place on Monday, May 28, from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Balboa Park.
The Vietnam Veterans of America
To honor those who have fallen, the Vietnam Veterans of America will be hosting a memorial service. The event will take place at the San Diego Vietnam Peace Memorial on May 28 from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m..
