Hello three day weekend, we have missed you so. If you don’t already have your grilling plans in order this weekend, you are in luck. San Diego’s hot spots are preparing for some serious BBQs and roof top extravaganzas. Grab your friends and make the most of your days off because there is tons to do this weekend in San Diego.

San Diego is home to 7 military bases and over 100,000 Active Duty personnel. So let’s honor and remember those service men and women who have fallen, and thank veterans and active duty for their service to this country. We Thank You!

Friday, May 25

Nelly at Parq

The St. Louis rapper will be coming to San Diego to perform at Parq night club downtown. Tickets are just $20. Nelly rose to fame in the early 2000s with hits like “Ride Wit Me” and “Hot in Here”. He made a comeback in 2010 with “Just A Dream” which was certified triple platinum. Head to Parq Nightclub to watch him perform his hits live this Friday at 10pm.

Topside Summer Friday Swine & Swill

At Topside Terrace Kitchen & Bar atop Hotel Republic, three beloved San Diego chefs: Shane McIntyre (Herb & Wood), Kenzie Allen (JRDN at Tower 23), and Amol Thanky (Patio Marketplace), will join Executive Chef JC Colón for a pit-prepared BBQ celebration of epic proportions. Modern Times brewery will be pouring a few special brews, and Casamigos tequila will be shaking up margaritas. The $20 all you can eat menu will feature a whole local pig, free range chicken, whole smoked salmon, and California-inspired sides from the Little Italy farmers market. Dana Carvey at the American Comedy Club

Emmy award winning comedian Dana Carvey has maintained an illustrious career. With countless club appearances, he became a regular on “Saturday Night Live” in 1986. Carvey left SNL after seven very successful seasons, establishing his best known characters. Head to the American Comedy Club to watch the legend live. Tickets are just $25, and he will be performing Thursday – Sunday.

Bacon & Beer Pairing and Indian Joe Brewing

Come out and experience a pairing unlike any other. An event that combines everyone’s two favorite things: bacon & beer. Indian Joe Brewing partnered with Slater’s 50/50 to make it a night to remember. Tickets are $15 per person and limited. There are two sessions, one at 7PM Session and another at 8:30PM Session. You will get four 5 oz. tasters and pair them each with two slices of bacon. Be prepared to experience a combination of flavors that are truly out of this world. Get your tickets here.

Rooftop Cinema Club just arrived in San Diego, and will be showing films atop Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego. With its stunning views of the city from every angle imaginable, Rooftop Cinema Club is revolutionizing the movie-going experience in its unique and one-of-a-kind setting underneath and among the stars. Open to adults 18-and-over. Ticket prices start at just $17 per person for a single deck-chair underneath the moon and the stars. Showing is at 6:30pm.

Fiesta Botanica Event at Balboa Park

Celebrate the 150-year anniversary of Balboa Park’s founding at the second annual Fiesta Botanica. Kicking off the historic day’s festivities at 10:00 a.m. will be the colorful floral wagon parade, with prizes awarded to the most creative wagon. The parade will be followed by a full day of lectures, gardening demonstrations, kids activities, and tours showcasing the park’s rich horticultural history. Butterfly releases, live entertainment, and food trucks will punctuate the festive celebration. This event is perfect for families with younger kids to learn while having fun. Eat your way through 15 different food truck options, offering a variety of cuisines from Tacos La Mezcla,  Carribean Escape, Seoul Man, Sushi Uno, Thai Burger Company, and so much more.

Herringbone La Jolla’s Ales & Acoustics

Herringbone La Jolla will be hosting this special event featuring Mason Ale Works. Oyster lovers rejoice! From 12pm-4, they will be serving delicious fresh shucked $1 oysters, $10 curried mussels, $6 arancini risotto balls, $10 wood fired crusts, and $6 fried brussels & candied pecans. Live musical performances by Mike Officer & Carissa Schreoder.

Santee Street Fair & Craft Beer Festival

More than 30,000 visitors will gather at the Santee Trolley Square Town Center for the 10th Annual Santee Street Fair and Craft Beer Festival. Get ready for a day filled with live music and entertainment, more than 300 food and craft vendor booths, carnival rides and more. Military families will be honored with the annual “Heroes Stage.” Event goers can also view the special memorial exhibit for Fallen Soldier of California from the War on Terror at the San Diego Christen College. The Craft Beer Festival also features breweries from all around San Diego County. For adults 21 and over, pre-sale tickets are available online for $25 and include 10 beer tasters and a meal.

Silent Disco at Andaz

Urban Fêtes has brought back the rave-like shindig with a modern twist. Don a pair of headphones and rock with 3 live DJs spinning the best hits. When you arrive you’ll receive a pair of wireless headphones. Each headset has a color that shows what channel you are listening to, so you can dance along with those listening to the same DJ. Lower the volume or take the headphones off to socialize without any loud music that you have to talk over. Plus, there’s no ringing in your ears when you leave. Veterans Wreath Remembrance Ceremony

Honoring veterans from World War II, KoreanWar, Vietnam War & Global War on Terrorism. An inspirational ceremony for all ages with emphasis on the 65th anniversary of the end of the Korean War. Featured speaker RADM Yancy Lindsey, Commanding Officer, Navy Region Southwest. Plus a flyover, live inspirational music, audience participation and more. Event attendees who arrive by 9:30 a.m. receive free admission to the museum following the ceremony. All Part of Our Legacy Week Commemoration.

Escape Sundays at the Upper East Bar

Starting this Sunday, the Upper East Bar atop the trendy Kimpton Solamar Hotel will be hosting their Escape Sundays event from 12-5, a relaxing poolside rooftop experience complete with a live DJ. Enjoy all day food & drink specials, including $5 draft beers. Sundays are for the girls, so grab your girl gang and recap the weekend over a bottle (or 2) of their $20 dry Rosé.

Maverick’s Summer Block Party

PB’s newest beach bar and club will be the place to be this Memorial Day, as they’ve got quite the lineup of fun planned for the upcoming three-day weekend. On Sunday, May 27th, Mavericks will be hosting their first official Summer Block Party with barbecue, games, tasty drinks and so much more. Swing by between 12-8 pm to kick off summer the right way.

Vista Strawberry Festival

Vista was once the “Strawberry Capital of the World”. This free family fun event is San Diego County’s only celebration of the strawberry. The festival will include live entertainment on multiple stages, bands, local craft brews in the beer garden, food, carnival rides, contests, 400 vendors that include strawberry desserts, food, crafts. Contests include Little Ms. Strawberry Shortcake, Strawberry Costume, Strawberry Idol, Pie-Eating.

Viejas Memorial Day Weekend BBQ

Viejas is hosting a BBQ in the park with live entertainment from 3-8 p.m. on Saturday & Sunday. Immediately following the BBQ, there will be a screening of Wonder Woman on Saturday and Avengers, Age of Ultron on Sunday. Memorial Day Club Crawl

All right party animals, this three day weekend would not be complete without a club crawl in San Diego’s most happening spot: Gaslamp District. Miramar National Cemetery Veterans Memorial Service

Sponsored by the Miramar National Cemetery Support Foundation, the service will be conducted in the cemetery’s Memorial Circle at the eastern end of the Avenue of Flags.

Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery 

The Fort Rosecrans Memorial Day celebration is one of San Diego’s largest and most celebrated memorials dedicated to our fighting men and women. On this day we honor all of our fallen soldiers and remember them for their ultimate sacrifice to our count.

USS Midway Musuem 

The USS Midway Museum is the heart and soul of Memorial Day celebration in San Diego. From May 26-May 28, the lineup of activities range from a Wreath Memorial ceremony, benefit concert, family activities, blood drive, interactive exhibits and more. Each element of Midway’s Legacy Week commemoration is designed to honor and remember our heroes and celebrate our military heritage. Events also offer the community an affordable and inspiring way to kick off summer in San Diego on one of the most iconic museums in the world. Get your tickets here.

Mt. Soledad’s Memorial Day Ceremony

This Memorial Day, the Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial commemoration ceremony will include a special plaque presentation honoring Ulysses S. Grant, American Civil War General and 18th President of the United States serving from 1869 to 1877.
