It’s that time of the year again and Cinco de Mayo is coming up quickly! While some may be celebrating Mexican Independence Day, others are actually honoring Mexico’s victory over the French in the 1862 Battle of Puebla. Regardless of the reason though, celebration is always the correct response. Here are a few things to do on Cinco de Mayo, each event is sure to satisfy your need for good Mexican food and even better margaritas!
Petco Park is kicking off Cinco de Mayo with their San Diego Padres’ Cinco de Mayo Party on Friday, May 4, 2012. Starting at 5 p.m., the party will feature some great Cinco de Mayo offers, like $5 beers, $5 margaritas, and $5 carnitas tacos, as well as live music! The first pitch against the Florida Marlins starts at 7:05 p.m., so make sure to time yourself well so you’ll still have their Executive Chef’s famous tacos to snack on and ice-cold margaritas to sip on during the game.
Without a doubt, Old Town is the number one place to celebrate any Mexican holiday. As the birthplace of California, Old Town signifies the first permanent Spanish settlement in the state and can always be counted on for its cultural celebrations, fantastic Mexican food and entertainment.
On May 5, Fiesta de Reyes, El Fandango, and The Cosmopolitan Hotel and Restaurant will be putting on a day of celebrations to honor Cinco de Mayo. Starting at 1 p.m., the festival starts with Ballet Folklorico dancers performing on the plaza stage. At 3:30 p.m. Los Rios, San Diego’s favorite mariachi group, will take over and perform some of their favorite Mexican songs. You can enjoy the entertainment while snacking on delicious Mexican dishes and authentic margaritas. At 6:30 p.m., Los Rios will head over to Barra Barra Saloon and Luis Max & The Blue Moon will take over at the Fiesta de Reyes stage at 7 p.m., to play Latin jazz for the crowds.
