Movie Review: The Expendables 2
“The Expendables 2” (directed by Simon West) is by far one of the most exciting films to watch this year. There maybe a but of exaggeration in that opinion, but with such a cast as this, with lots of action packed scenes, how can one not think highly of this film?
The Expendables…Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone), Yin Yang (Jet Li), Hale Caesar (Terry Crews), Gunnar Jensen (Dolph Lundgren), Lee Christmas (Jason Statham), and Toll Road (Randy Couture)… have returned and are back in the game again. This time in the gang’s latest mission they have added two new members to their ranks, a young soldier nicknamed Billy the Kid (Liam Hemsworth) and Maggie (Nan Yu).
The story takes place a year after the crew’s big mission in Vilena. The Expendables have just finished their rescue mission in Nepal when the group is once again assigned to another task. This time, their mission is planned by Mr. Church (Bruce Willis). To pay back Church for failing to complete his mission and taking the 5 million dollar paycheck, the group is forced to recover a mysterious package from a crashed plane in Albania.
However, the seemingly easy mission quickly turns dark and personal when the ruthless antagonist Jean Vilain (Jean-Claude Van Damme) and his team ambush The Expendables and kills their teammate. Now the Expendables want their revenge in blood as they hunt down Vilain in Eastern Europe.
Continuously the sequel has proven to be far better than the original. It brought out all the A-list action stars and gave each of the stars enough screen time for the audience to enjoy. The film was jam-packed with bloody action shots and hilarious witty acting lines.
Throughout the film the actors did a wonderful job in keeping the interest of the audience. Sylvester and Jason were hilarious in their constant bantering between each other and the rest of the original crew did a great job in their own hilarious unique roles. As a newbie actor to the film and team, Liam did a fantastic job in performance and blended well with the tough Expendables gang.
Many of the A-List actors that were included in the film were the Terminator Arnold Schwarzenegger and the Lone Wolf Chuck Norris. Chuck was pure awesomeness personified in the film and Arnold was the usual grim tough hero everyone loves.
In addition, “The Expendables 2” was further enhanced by the experience of enjoying the film in the D-Box seating section (available at UltraStar Cinemas). The seats moved the audience along the story and made the viewers experience the full power behind the gun blazing and fighting. Sitting in The D-Box seats made me feel like I was in the film scene, just another Expendables crew member.
“The Expendables 2” is definitely a movie that is worth seeing. It has the stars, the action, the entertaining clever humor, and a great story line. What more could one want?
