Ocean Beach-Surfrider Foundation organizes ocean paddle for clean water

By  |

Southern California is known for its beautiful beaches and ideal surfing. It’s common to walk the beaches and find local surfers, but 300 at one time, in one spot?! What was happening?

If you wandered the beach of Ocean Beach, in San Diego on Sunday September 12th, you would have seen more surfers than usual. The Surf Rider Foundation, San Diego Chapter, was hosting its 19th Annual Paddle for Clean Water Event. The foundation was raising awareness to promote clean water and prevent pollution of its beaches, ocean and streets. In fact, one of the organizations mottos is “Hold onto to your Butt” to promote cleaning up cigarette butts. Another motto is ‘Don’t be Blinded- Be Ocean Minded!”.

The event began with all surfers paddling a one mile course around the Ocean Beach Pier. After the paddle, there was breakfast, guest speakers and a raffle.

Thanks to all the surfers who participated in the paddle. Cheers to you for your efforts!

Sponsors came out to support the foundation and volunteered their time for the event. Generous sponsors included: 91X and Live Nation, Ocean Beach Surf & Skate, Seedless Clothing, Holeman Surf Designs, FCS and Julie Designs, Recycoolers, Billabong and Caffé Calabria. 91X even donated additional time for the Beach Clean Up.

Next time you’re in OB, PB, La Jolla, Del Mar, or enjoying any beach in San Diego remember to keep it clean and pristine so we can all enjoy the beauty this wonderful city has to offer.
